In my experience a good option from 10 yards or more away you can get close by flopping from the fringe.
Putting is dodgy, chipping can be unpredictable.
So, there I am at the dreaded 9th at Kiawah. You all know the second shot. The one that plays long for no valid reason. Hit a proper length club and it comes short of the ground. Club up a touch and your 2/30ft past the hole.
So, I end up left, thought I was on the green, but no the fringe. 10 yds. Get the 50 wedge flop, play a little over two thirds say 11 yards figuring I may end up witha 2/3 ft putt back at worst. It flops a few inches.
Now, the usual know it alls will blah blah blah about chipping etc.. But I play very good flops on most fringes and even out of light rough, a few shallow bukers can be flopped.
So, when you have an average RG score of -2 - maybe enough for 60 credits - does WGT do one and make up the rules as it goes along. If you can flop out of fringe 95% of the time, why not the other 5%.
That's my tired rant.
