What's with flopping from the fringe?

  From what I can tell you are about 11 yards short of flag below the hole. You hit flop about 2/3rds meter and it shanked and didn't go all the way. I suspect 2 things may have happened. 1. you choked too much on the flop. 2. you missed ding and paired off with 1. it forced the error.

  Personally, I have used flop there many times and only time it backfired was when I missed meter badly. Also, from inside 11 yards u can use chip or pitch no? The 13 pitch on 50 wedge, can be choked to about 9 and it will get there.

  I recommend you try and experiment shots and not just stick to one, for sometimes that experimentation will lead to better ways to manage the course

  I was where you said. I flopped 65% of 15 yarder. It went a couple of inches. I was still in the fringe. Stupid me. couldnt believe it, so I played the same shot and it happened a second time.

  [bugs did exist when it came to putting, but you can putt from the fringe quite easy now. As for any other shot from the fringe, there was never a problem with those.

   

  There is still a bug with short downhill putts from the fringe...BnB, and some other top players have acknowleged it..

  Here are a few examples..

  Kiawah #13...Pull you approach shot slightly and you end in the fringe,  15 feet from the hole and 10 inches downhill.... Hit a putt with about 5 feet of power and the ball only moves an inch..

  Oakmont #15...Hit your approach just long (on line with pin) and the scenario and results are quite similar...

  Bottom line...If you are in fringe, and the shot calls for less than 10 feet of power, the ball barely moves if you attempt to putt it..

  Just did a 6 foot putt from the fringe on BPB, no problems. As I said I knew it existed but after about a month ago it was gone. I cannot speak for oakmont but BPB it just worked.

   

  BPB #10 with back left pin..?  I tried to recreate the problem there several months ago, but there didn't seem to be an issue from that particular spot..I dunno why..

  In any case, I hope you are correct about the prob being resolved...

  I suspect it just reached the limit of how much you can choke on the club. Try other ways and it should work:)

  I rarely ever choke below 7% of flop.

  Cheers for that pitch idea. Of course I could have chipped it, but I trusted the flop.

  TBF I find the pitch a lottery shot. Very rarely had great result and quite a few duffs. I prefer to do what you suggested but with a full shot choked down on the 50W. Playing between 50% and 80% usually gets me very close.

  I chip the 6 yarder and 11 yarder from most off green positions close in. Even holed a few. LOL. Though not every time like some people like to claim on here.

  That's a really good answer. Cheers. I was probably 10 or 11, but it makes a bit of sense.

  If this is the case then you're using the pitch wrong. It's almost impossible to duff a pitch unless you're trying to do it with too little of a swing. To eschew the pitch and chip shots you really lose a couple of valuable tools. Re-read Iconian's Chip and Pitch Tips if you need to but these shots really need to be part of your arsenal.

  From what I remember, it was just too much info to absorb when I read those tips. Now, I have a lot of the other shots embedded perhaps I'll reread the pitch.

  I go back and reread it every once in a while just  to refresh the memory and pick up something I may have missed.

  I always putt from the fringe unless I'm a really long way from the cup. The short down hill putts can be tricky. If I don't sink the putt I'm usally pretty close.
