Great opening round 58.....congrats. i was thinking a couple of low 60's would do it but maybe not. I guess the idea with the greens would be to leave yourself uphill putts. They can be a little tougher downhill with those speeds.

I will give her a go tonight...looking forward to it. Good luck to everyone!!!!

Posted a 66, happy, but not ecstatic.  Missed 4 putts inside 10ft, and averaged 16.9ft to pin, but a whopping 1.61 putts per hole.    Not gonna score well with that putting stat.

Good Luck to rest with RD 1 to play, and GL to all in RD 2

    Cheers,

Posted a ho-hum 62 putted like crap on the front only managed a -4 going out.  Turned it up a notch on the back, barely missing a 7 yard eagle chip on the par 5 16th and missing 1 fairway (17th).  On 17 I stiffed it to 3.5 feet from 168 yards in the left rough and proceeded to lip out the birdie because I hit it too hard LOL!  Birdied the 18th though to make up for it... had a few winds that made it really hard to put myself in good putting position like on 15 had to hit 3i from 198 and just got on the front of the green and rolled to the middle, very lucky it didn't get held up.

All and all no bogies, all GIRs and way too many 2-putts for my liking.

    Good luck all!

67 with 2 bogies. Bogey on #1 after lipping out a 3 footer for par. Bogey on #2 after hitting it long and left and not being able to get up and down.

Greens are slick if you're putting downhill. Stay below the hole on your approaches if you can. Wow.

    67. Puke.

I almost pulled a WD, I was 4 over heading to #5, managed to get it together somewhat and finish up -3.

    58 is very impressive!

what is the 1.4 formula for distance?

    tiffer67:

Just finished my round Darsum. As conditions go it wasn't as bad as I had come to expect.

The winds peak at about 20mph, which is timid if you have played a lot of heavy winds at St Andrews. The greens were clearly faster but not as treacherous as I remember the championship green speed of last year. That may of course be down to playing on tournament as default now, as opposed to going from very fast to championship.

As for my round; never got going until the back 9 and even then a careless 3 putt broke any momentum I had. Happy enough with my 65.

ps I used the divide by 1.4 formula for distance calculation and it proved very reliable.

1.4 formula for distance means.........say you would putt  x amount of  meter strength for 10ft putt on standard green,  on championship greens that same putt would travel 14ft. (1.4x X longer)

I shot a VERYyyyyyyyyyyyyyy lucky 60     was scrambling, missing a few  greens and fairways. I sank a lucky chip in for eagle and 2 putts that never shouldve dropped.

I didnt shoot what I hoped to, but shot realistically best of my ability.  Best I can say of the round was that I didn't miss any putts that I should've made.

I was using std x 1.4  for putter distance as these are championship greens also ( these seem about 10% faster than the qualifying)
