    chrisironsbones:

you would hit tree if punched off tee

The idea is to get to the fairway. Try the 3w and aim at the visible part of the fairway, like going under the branches of the tree.

But i've played that shot loads of times with similar wind, i even hit early before the ding to straighten shot so wind doesn't effect that much, but wind seemed to exaggerate, go from 17 to 25 mph., Just hope the ones at foot of leaderboard get the reversal of deviation for round 2, and the ones at top get similar deviation to what i occured.

I think you have to just put it (first round) out of your mind Chris, and just play the course in the next round as you normally would, otherwise I fear you'll wind up over.under hitting to try to compensate for what may or may not be there.

To me the course played a lot like SA's winds, just a little miss on the wrong side with backspin (or too much BS) and shots were way off.

    That sucks Chris.

I didn't have any deviations in wind or club yardage in my round at all. I just didn't hit my mark a few times and putted like crap. Never had one meter glitch. The reason I was only 4 under was all me.

I knew I didn't have a shot or even being close to winning this thing but it was fun. I guess.

If all rounds were like mine i would probably go insane, it was like whatever i did, the opposite would happen.  Cant wait for 2nd round tommorrow for my revenge on VEM/deviation.  I'll show it who's boss

Good gawd, you said you were going to rant no more after describing the front then ranted on and on about the back 9, lol.

I'm +6 from my average and you're +8... I really don't have much to complain about.  Sure there were some WTF shots, but if a shot wound up not where I wanted it was probably either because I didn't ding it or in a retrospective analysis I shoulda set up differently, hit harder/softer or whatever.  I've only played the full course 15 times or so... so I haven't developed enough course knowledge to play a lights out round under normal conditions, let alone under the setup it's playing at.

The minute you start blaming your bad round on some outside influence, the more it gets in your head.  The more it gets in your head, the further you get from maintaining the total concentration you need to read your shot and execute it.

Take a chill pill and enjoy your 2nd round.  This tourney is being played by the best of the best.  At my skill level I'm happy if I place in the top third.

Well, you are wrong there on one account...yes, it's being played by the best of the best.

    And me.

My goal is to be in the top half of the leader board, hopefully not start out so badly and maybe a 65-ish with my 68 in the first round will get me there...but, I'm a realist, for every hole I don't bogey in the second round, probably means I'll par the holes I birdied in the first :)

But you know whats really neat?  I get to talk to all the qualifiers who are in this thing, and actually get to speak from experience!

For me really, it's just great to be here.

This is second round compared to first:

My reversal of deviation has come true.

1st hole i slice my approach, thought DAMN, but ended 1 yard from pin????? Birdie

    2 par

3 decent approach, like yesterday, 4 yards from pin. Another birdie

    4. par

    5. 124 yard approach, 9mph left right wind, i aim left, press too early, o no a slice, but ball ends up 2 yards from pin??? This is POSITIVE DEVIATION making up for my round yesterday. Birdie

    6. My Wood approach to green lands 7 yards from pin in rough, i skim the hole just miss eagle, Another Birdie.

    7. Leave 15 foot putt, just overhit due to downslope, and lipped out, MY MISTAKE. Par

    8. Birdie

But some one take note here, let us know if this could be TRUE.

I started out my round with moderate winds, nothing more than 8/9 mph.  After reaching 8 and -4, the wind on 8, and later holes is now 14/15 MPH.

Do you remember my rant yesterday saying i hope i get POSITIVE deviation/ or no deviation and its down to my skill.  Well judging by the sudden change in wind, maybe WGT has given the lower end of leaderboard a chance to catch up, and now i have caught up a bit, conditions are back to normal.  Just a thought, but might need further proof.

-6 for front 9, what a difference NO DEVIATION makes. lol

    10. Land 9 ins from cup, WOW all my clubs yardages are TRUE.

Why mess with peoples rounds with so called deviation WGT, someone might go insane one day and do something silly.

11 & 12, get meterd on both 12 foot putts to miss 2 birdie chances

    13. Birdie

14, get metered aagin on 9 foot putt, miss ding, and the putt, i punch wall in fustration of meter. Time to restart & clear cache's lol

I was -10 going into 18, meter paused on approach, you guessed it..SPLASH.  Ended up with a 22 foot putt for bogey, which i scraped in, lucky, a good round might have turned to disastrous.

The meter might fustrate us at times, but i think its there to add natural feel to game.  No ones swing is perfect every time, a skipped meter adds reality.

lucky you chris - i just got owned by the meter again  on the 2nd round , still had a lot of short putts but somehow the yardage was actually correct this time. i dont know how but 18th got me again into the water off a dinged approach shot which flew way over its yardage and hit the edge of a bunker and flew in. anyway.. better round but still pulled half my hair out. GL to all.
