Have we stumbled across a Titleist Marketing Rep? #Dazza501 : )
That is a pretty massive swing.
The biggest difference in my rounds tend to be whether I get good heavy winds or tough heavy winds... regardless of ball choice.
Take the opening hole for the US Open Qualifier...the long par 4 with a headwind even when I try to squeeze my tee shot up the left side the green is still unreachable. If you go to the right side of fairway it gives you a better angle, the green is still unreachable...you have to hole out for birdie so you are basically starting out with par... With a nice tailwind or favorable sidewind that allows the ball to carry a bit you can then reach in 2 and possibly set up a reasonable birdie putt... that one hole can have you starting one shot back...
I find it hard to believe that even a top end Titleist for 975 credits is going to pierce through those headwinds... So, I would wager WINDS and putting have more to do with scoring compared to which hi end ball is used. I could be wrong ...but I have watched top level players restart their rounds if they get "bad heavy winds" because they know it takes birdie or eagle out of play and there is little point in starting out behind...
When I watched one of the open qualifier rounds on YouTube the other night, it was almost unbelievable how many good helping tailwinds the player got. Those winds made long par 4's reachable in 2 and short par 4's reachable in 1 when played correctly. Something that could be done with your trusty L71 Nike even!
I won't discount the ball is a better ball... but I sense there is a little more to it than just the ball.
