I think this a great idea. Let's put it this way. We've all read the posts about the calls for the opens to have single play qualifying. How about a tournament on the existing courses (as YJ says at the beginning of the year) that are similar the the weekly multi-round tourneys?
We've already been playing (practicing) at these venues and know where we need to be on all holes, what if (BIG IF HERE), WGT did a tournament similar to the weekly multi-round? For example, Monday-Thursday, SIngle Play (18 holes) at St. Andrews, Friday-Sunday, Single Play at Oakmont (18 holes).
WGT could then sort out over the next few days, the qualifiers (156 plus ties) and announce by Thursday at the latest, the two venues that will be used as the final rounds (to allow for weekend practice). The next week, would be the championship rounds (the scores from the qualifying rounds would still count towards your total score). After all, in a real golf tournament, the first two rounds before the cut aren't for just qualifying (although I would love to see what the results would be if you reset to scores for the weekend).
Basically, in about January, we would get another major tourney (WGT, to determine prizes of course), that would allow plenty of practice and would have four 18 hole single play tournaments to determine the winner. I hope this makes sense to everyone.
