    Hey bogey,

Agree totally about playing the 4 Majors on WGT. Like I said before I dont think it's gonna happen, not only because it takes 1/2 a year 2 generate a course, but more important: partnerships. We all know about Augusta....and till now there isn't any kind of cont(r)act with the PGA (as far as I know).

That said it would be nice 2 organise the PGA Championships 4 next year by ourselves, hopefully with some help from WGT. I know it's a bit early right know but  the course is there and with some help from WGT it should be fairly easy....

Qualifying: August (2012) 18-Hole Unlimited Play on Kiawah - 4 all players from the Legendtees and Legendgreenspeeds - first 156 players and ties qualify.

PGAChampionchips: September (2012) 18 Hole Open on Kiawah - again 4 all players from the Legendtees and (hopefully) Championshipgreenspeed.

Prizes not known yet, but I can imagine that some players are willing 2 fund credits or equipment 4, lets say, Top 25 and ties...

Well, still a long time 2 go, but I think it's worth trying.....hope there will be a response and willingness from WGT.

    Cheers, GC

There have been a few longer-term tournaments, apart from the Opens, going on for a couple of months each, but they weren't promoted so thoroughly, it wasn't all that clear what was at stake, and they didn't generate all that much excitement.

Maybe a tiered tournament utilizing all 6 courses. 6 tourneys each with 1 week unlimited CCTH play on group 1 holes. The top 128 no not 156. 128 (You will see why later) would move on to 3 days unlimited CTTH play on group 2 holes. cutting the field to 64. those 64 would move on to 3 days unlimited CTTH play on group 3 holes. cutting the field to 32. These 32 would then play for the championship of each course playing match play. The 6 winners would then play match play on a course picked by WGT to crown a champion of champions for each tier. It would be nice if WGT did this to bring out a new course for the finals. As a deterrent for sandbaggers the overall winner of each lower tier would be automatically raised to the next tier. WGT could make this a free tourney or a premium tourney. Anyone else like this idea? This could be around the first of the year calling it the "WGT Classic". Thought of this format because one poster mentioned the PGA championship and the original PGA championship format was match play.It was match play until 1958.

Making it too convoluted derails the original topic-how to recreate the excitement and participation (revenue) that the Opens brought. It would be more attractive to have Open type qualifying over a period of weeks leading up to a Grand Prize, something worthy of attracting the masses. Gift cards don't cut it. Trips someplace do, or the like.

The format for the Opens was fine for qualifying (maybe tighten up the conditions)  and it brought many players out for try after try. That's where the excitement was generated. The Finals were anticlimactic. Trying to get there is what made it exciting.

Think prizes. What would make it worthwhile and where would it come from?

At the moment most of the courses now and planned are from America, there is 2 in England (which I not winging about)  Maybe WGT can think about starting a course from Australia. We have some of the best golf courses in the world down here.

If that happens, then the World Golf Tour can have another big Major. They can call it the Wgt Major tour,or something like that...lol,  with big prizes.

    Cheers

Doesn't your country club have their own majors and regular multi-round tournaments?

The PGA has the PGA Championship.  Why can't WGT have the WGT Championship?

Run it just like a major, have qualifying run mid-December to mid-January then the tourney.  Use the existing courses on a rotation starting with whatever course is the farthest removed from the majors (so not Congress, RSG, ST A, or Oak).
