with a sidewind on the hole (or any hole with a severe down elevation) I do not put any spin on the ball.
So I'm hitting about 180-190, no spin with the G10 5 iron. This is with the calloway s balls, but most any ball should stop dead from that elevation, even on tourney greens (although if you are a touch long, you will get a bit of roll - and if your short you won't get enough)
I may put a touch of top or back if the wind is straight head/tail - but not much.
If you are backspining the ball there with a crosswind, you are very likely to get a result that makes you go.... ffs!
eliminating the physics involved with a lot of spin will help you better get a handle on how the wind really plays there.
