with a sidewind on the hole (or any hole with a severe down elevation) I do not put any spin on the ball.

So I'm hitting about 180-190, no spin with the G10 5 iron. This is with the calloway s balls, but most any ball should stop dead from that elevation, even on tourney greens (although if you are a touch long, you will get a bit of roll - and if your short you won't get enough)

I may put a touch of top or back if the wind is straight head/tail - but not much.

If you are backspining the ball there with a crosswind, you are very likely to get a result that makes you go.... ffs!

eliminating the physics involved with a lot of spin will help you better get a handle on how the wind really plays there.

But what's with that water hazard? Has anyone, ever, dropped a ball in that water?
Wouldn't exactly call it "dropped" , but quite a while back when we were both masters (long before tier system) , I used to have some  just awesomely intense MP Challenges early in the mornings with , then , Iconian...sporting  the intimidating patent green outfit.  Anyway , Iconian told me during one of our matches that he had once smacked the pin low , but on the fly,  and it rolled backwards into the water...such an awesome shot to be rewarded in that manner.

In fact it was this very water hazard that Andyson had Obama stroking a ball into in his first caption contest! Doesn't speak well of someone.

At least for me this hole is all about dinging.  If I ding it, I can generally keep it within 10ft every time regardless of pin position.  Dont ding it......its 6/5 and pick em on whats going to happen.

I haven't dropped one into that water in a long long time, but I did a few times when Bethpage was just brand spanking new for the US Open....  Man I hated that hole...

Are Legend tees the same as Championship tees?

Or are they much longer and much more diabolical?
