Looking at the pro shop a lot of balls that were available are no longer in service. Why tho ??? Contract obligations from callaway?
Branded balls follow the real production. Model changes happen here, too, to heat up sales.
Also WGT downsized their line of golf balls too . The change was probably done to reduce program clutter and increase ball sales for the better name brands . The players who are casual players arent going to buy sleeves of balls that cost 1000`s of credits . So get rid of the cheaper end balls which will force players to buy more expensive balls and credits as well .
And every time they do so, I personally drop the type of ball I actually pay credits for to the next lower credit balls. I will play with the rock before I ever spend one thin dime of real money. JMHO
Nobody is being forced to buy more expensive balls.
I just looked at ScottHope's Equipment Tables, which lists all the balls available. There are:
The prices for existing balls have not changed in years, with the exception of some modest price increases to the low-end WGT balls. There are plenty of great options available in all price ranges.
I counted only 20 balls that were 1,000 credits or more.

If you sort the table by Price ⇨ Smallest to Largest, then sort by Colour ⇨ [Red], all the discontinued items (red font) will appear at the top. ; )
Still, Sam's point remains. Not only are there plenty of choices overall, there are plenty of choices at all price levels.
If I correctly deleted items no longer available, below is what the current distribution looks like.
Just did a count of balls on WGT home page,. One hundred and fifteen options available. In the pro shop on my Steam account I have one hundred and six balls to choose from.Maybe the ball you play is on the WGT home page
