    Doublemochaman:

This does not bode well for me since I've made it clear I'd like to be a member at Augusta National.

Augusta National is a bit stodgy even towards its most influential members.

This from the Augusta National website:

Located at hole No. 17, the Eisenhower Tree is approximately 210 yards from the Masters tee and left-center of the fairway. The loblolly pine is approximately 65 feet high and about 100 to 125 years old. The former President of the United States and Club member hit into the tree so often he campaigned to have it removed. At a Club's governors meeting in 1956, Eisenhower proposed cutting the tree down. Clifford Roberts promptly ruled him out of order and adjourned the meeting. The pine has been linked to Eisenhower since then.

A couple of people wanted courses with elevation changes.  Here are a couple of doozies:

Mountain Air CC in Burnsville, NC - IT has a 250 yard par 3 that a 6 iron will fly the green (150+ ft drop and the cart path looks like a road in the swiss alps), a 500+ yard par 4 with about a 300 foot vertical drop.  The course sits on a mountaintop overlooking Mount Mitchell.  If you hit over the 7th green your ball will be demolished after about a 2000 vertical drop down a steep hill.  This is the only scorecard that I've evr seen that lists the elevation change on each hole.

Another NC course, Tobacco Road - Stevie Wonder would love this course: blind tee shots, blind approaches, blind sand shots, blind chips, blind putts!  The course is crazy.

And a more traditional old style course, Oakland Hills "The Monster".  I've had the opportunity to play there about a dozen times and it has some of the most sinister greens that there are and some really hilly holes.  The 17th is the hardest par 3 I've ever played and the 16th is one of the prettiest and most historic.

I nominate Southern Hills in Tulsa, an incredibly difficult and beautiful course and a regular Major event venue.

There are only three stroke play courses at this time.

    Kiawah - full 18

Bethpage Black (my fav) - full 18

    St Andrews - front 9

There are more on the way though. See this LINK.

I would love to see the South African Open course for the last 3 years Pearl Valley in the Western Cape of South Africa. Amazing course and beautiful too.

I may also be bias because my parents live there so I play the course alot :)

Sun Valley. Lots elevated greens and Tees. it would be interesting to see this game adapts to a course at 6000ish feet.
