I was in my backyard putting on glass and it was easier then these greens.  A tonne of fun to start, opening round 71 here.  Not too bad, not too good, considering a few bogey's and a triple.

    cheers

Wow 20 years sober, now with this beast i'll be a full blown alcoholic again. Great job WGT, i'm very interested to see what scores can be achieved here.I tend to be +6 by the third hole it sure is a tough one.

I also want to say congrats new courses and all is great....unless you have the beginner set of clubs...at ST Andrews and Oakmont I can barley make the fairways (based on wind mostly st andrews) and the some par 4s are out of the question on both courses let alone one of the par 3s. I have been playing for sometime and the best I can do is 20 over...and yes I only bailed on one round. My last round on Oakmont +28.

a few questions and i hope there is a way to see who has done this

at pro level with beginer clubs shoot under par on Oakmont and same for St Andrews under tourny conditions. any body do that?

if so who are they because I need to learn from them...

Best of luck to all on the qualifier as with this equipment I dont see myself making the cut as it is as 70 now and I am on average 25-28 shots off pace.

    Hey Niv,

Massive thumbs up from me :-) Fantastic job WGT.

I just love the challenge of it, and having these greens so slippery really tests how good you actually are. The putting, although slippery as hell, is not so bad. Its all about practice. I made one big change to my putting after my first round at Oakmont and on my first round at St Andys only 3 putted once, so - its never easy, but it can be mastered.

I kinda surprised myself with an opening 67 at St Andys, and was ever so pleased to see some very big name players - behind me !! Now that is really something,  its a challenge for everyone.

I birdied the difficult 17th, got a bit of luck with my tee shot (boy do you need it) and hit a super second to within 12ft and sunk the putt. The trick on this hole is to run your second shot up from the front of the green. The contour of the green will feed the ball into the flag.

The other thing I really like about the 2 courses now, is that you really have to think your way around them (not that you didnt before). Its not about hitting your drive as far as you can, although that helps sometimes, its about position on the fairway to avoid obstacles and set yourself up for your second and third shots.

These courses are all about precision.

I doubt whether 67 will qualify, but got plenty of time to improve - so here's hoping.

    Again - FANTASTIC JOB GUYS.

    Cheers

    Doug

Yes they do make you think more than the others. Also you must think about the position you put yourself on the green .Some of the pin placements makes it a sure 3 putt if you put yourself in a really bad position especially when you putt as badly as I do sometimes.

This afternoon I played the qualifier and shot a even par 36 on the front side taking only 14 putts. I then took about an hour break, believe it or not to take our cat for a walk. When I cane back and played the backside if was like night and day. I shot a 47 taking 25 putts including 5 putting # 14.

Since the 2 qualifiers started my average has gone from slightly over 69 to slightly over 81. Some of this is due to the faster than very fast greens ,also the longer hole lengths but a lot of it Is trying to get used to the super fast meter speed of my new G15 driver and my stupidity of trying to play with it with a zero feel ball. Lately I have switched to the 2 new GI3 balls and am having a little better luck except with the putting. But I'm sure I'll improve.

And lastly Great Job WGT on both courses.

    Joe

    Damn 17

The sad thing is I didn't even put it out of bounds off the tee, just lost the second shot into 50-60 fescue.

    .....sigh....

"57"...what a joke. Seems to me that a few people have either found a way to activate cheat codes or they play WAAAAyyyy to much!

I just shot 61 on my 3rd round from the tourney tees, it's not impossible & the STA course is easier than the oak course.
