Hey Niv,
Massive thumbs up from me :-) Fantastic job WGT.
I just love the challenge of it, and having these greens so slippery really tests how good you actually are. The putting, although slippery as hell, is not so bad. Its all about practice. I made one big change to my putting after my first round at Oakmont and on my first round at St Andys only 3 putted once, so - its never easy, but it can be mastered.
I kinda surprised myself with an opening 67 at St Andys, and was ever so pleased to see some very big name players - behind me !! Now that is really something, its a challenge for everyone.
I birdied the difficult 17th, got a bit of luck with my tee shot (boy do you need it) and hit a super second to within 12ft and sunk the putt. The trick on this hole is to run your second shot up from the front of the green. The contour of the green will feed the ball into the flag.
The other thing I really like about the 2 courses now, is that you really have to think your way around them (not that you didnt before). Its not about hitting your drive as far as you can, although that helps sometimes, its about position on the fairway to avoid obstacles and set yourself up for your second and third shots.
These courses are all about precision.
I doubt whether 67 will qualify, but got plenty of time to improve - so here's hoping.
Again - FANTASTIC JOB GUYS.
Cheers
Doug
