I would enjoy if WGT could keep the St Andrews and Oakmont championship versions out there for play as well.  A real challenge once in a while would be nice.

Hey Niv - are there any plans to keep the championship set ups once the qualifiers are finished ?

Sort of, but not exactly like you may be thinking.  It may not be immediately after the tournaments conclude, but keep your eyes peeled ;-)

    blackbeard:
Also, any plans to show the total number of participants to enter the qualifiers ?

Unknown, though I don't recall them doing that last year either.  They just announced the general participation numbers.

The July 18th deadline is coming up fast for the qualifying round of the Virtual Open Championship!  Last few days to get those scores in the books!

With a little under 3 days left to go in the Open qualifying we see things are shaping up a little differently on St. Andrews.  The cut line has been at -9 for some time now and that score is currently good enough to tie for 103rd place; well below the 156th place requirement.  It's hard to say at this time whether or not the cut will remain at 63, but it would require 54 more new players shooting a 62 or better in these last few days to drive the cut down one more stroke.

The last day for Virtual Open Championship qualifying is July 18th.   Any last minute qualifying attempts must be completed and submitted by 11:59PM PDT on Sunday, July 18th!

Good Luck to all players still searching for that 63!

I didn't know where this post should go, but i do believe i'm asking for help, so here it is.

This round just broke my heart into pieces; I know I still might not have qualified (only made master a week ago and fighting the fast meter still) but COME ON!

I know many of you have had much better rounds but because this round thrilled the life out of me I wanted to post it. Look at my numbers and tell me what to work especially hard on.

Also, Hole # 2 ,Hole # 13 and Hole #17... any tips? the wind at #17 was gusting at above 20mph left to right, almost impossible to pick a spot where it would stay in the fairway. Ended up thinking if i had picked the right spot while swinging and was VERY late on the meter... Out of Bounds. Sucked it up and hit another one in the rough, came back onto the fairway and from there put it on the green within 2 feet for a double bogey.

#13, the only time i've birdied it when i was having a bad round and decided to get creative with my shots, placed the drive on the left side of the bunkers. From there took a longer than needed club; partial full shot and bounced/rolled it up through the broken piece of fairway to 9 feet of the hole, but i feel that's too risky and unsustainable a shot.

Again, I'm not sure as to the purpose, or lack thereof, of this post, but this round has thrilled, excited, joyed, and broken my heart. Missed a 20 feet make-able eagle putt on hole #5. Missed a 6 feet birdie putt on #8, an 8 feet birdie putt on #3, a 5 feet birdie putt on #14, another 8 feet birdie putt on #11. W O W.  and yet this was one of my best rounds in these qualifiers.

I now feel apologetic about this rant, but I just want general comments, and more specific tips for #2, #13, and #17. Thanks a lot for bearing with me. Awesome work WGT; LOVE this game! (still not gonna pay you for performance enhancing balls, dunno why, i equate it with performance enhancing drugs :P )

After this morning, I see that Rory would only just make the WGT cut :)

By now most of you have probably seen that EA Sports in running the Virtual Major championship on TWO @ St.Andrews at the same time that the WGT R&A virtual open is being played. I sincerely hope R&A and WGT sue the pants off of EA Sports. They deserve it.

tiger woods and ea sports have had st. andy's since computer golf games started, what's the problem? well at least as long as i've been playing around 95/96 i think. JB

I think the problem is WGT are meant to be the OFFICIAL, one and only Virtual Open Championship. EA Sports are, if this is true, breaking copyright that is owned by R&A and as such have no right to call their's the 'Virtual Open Championship'.

    I think.
