Putting is where you pick up the shots. With BPB havng almost flat greens you can get away with approach shots inside 15 foot rather than 5 foot. At Kiawah and Oakmont you need to get really close or putt really well.

Kiawah is still my favourite course tee to green but the false breaks and lack of camera angles can ruin a round quickly.

Talking about K I  ocean course.

just tried to play around in a CC tourny on there,,

Hole 3  slightly off the fairway on the right after 1 st shot,, played second shot,,,straight,,and ball went straight into the weeds on right,,lost ball

next shot I decided to lay up  hit ball straight,,the ball went straight into weeds in exactly the same place,,lost ball,,

next shot I decided to play even shorter and just chip onto fairway,,same result as before,

3 brand new balls lost,,chance in tourny lost....withdrew from Tourny,, Have never had that sort of thing happen before,

I went to St A`s and shot two 5 under par nine holes back to back.

thats my rant over,, St Andrews for me thank you

    Hi

Funny how things can change. When I started this computer game back in 2011

I found Kiawah the most easy course to play.Today I find the course very hard with a lot of tricky puts.

.....And yet, i still see many, many 50's being posted from players on this course. Most mortals, like myself would be thrilled to come close to a 50 once in our computer life on this course....

What has made the course harder is the additional new pins. The green immediately round many of the new pins have some wicked breaks,

This is exactly what made it harder for me.

The only thing that makes Kiawah  difficult are the greens.  The only excuse for them Is that they were the first course wgt made, so I'll give them some slack, but It wont make me feel less frustrated when playing ready go earlier and -6 after 6 holes, then Kiawah greens halt round DEAD.   Lets not forget the DIAGONAL putts you get on 1 or 2 holes which GUARANTEE YOU PAR due to impossible to read for birdie.  3 birdie putts fly out the window due to the  DIAGONAL PUTTS!. And who ever made the putting view on new #15 need to sit on the naughty step next course mapping

Best thing to do on Kiawah is use chip view because similar to Cabo & whistler, it gives you a more accurate break

    Edit

Having actually bothered to read the thread properly now, I see we are talking from a legend tee perspective, I suppose I have that to look forward to, will take your word for it, was preaching about how good I am at Kiawah, seems a little stupid, so removed it now :)

I am convinced, and have been for some time, that Kiawah's greens were mapped by a drunken baboon on LSD.  Or by someone incompetent who should have been canned immediately afterwards.

I'm guessing that the original pin placements are real and the new placements were just ginned up by WGT.

There's no rule in golf that governs the placement of the pins, but there are unwritten guides by the PGA. Putts should be reasonable to make when close. The putt should not be subject to extreme breaks within 3 feet, and preferable 10 feet, of the cup. A close putt that accelerates after the stroke is rarely (if ever) seen in real life golf.

I love playing Kiawah for the simple reason that a 60/61 can be a good round in a RG and maybe make a small profit. I think i'd actually enjoy the game more if all the greens we're like that. Oakmont and Olympic are tough because of the greens and most of the scores are more true to life.

I really hope that future courses here are made tougher than the one's we have at the moment. It seems nowadays that making a par on a hole is considered a mistake and i'd much more prefer it if making a birdie or even an eagle was a good feeling again instead of just being the expected norm.
