Just because you are a top earner doesn't always mean anything either.

In this case it does.  No sweeps winners included.

    geraldlarousse:
Edit: Also figure since i use the Max ball.... i got a lot of dingage going on here....lol. I know what up on the dingy thingy.

No doubt in my mind the top players in my sample have no problem hitting the ding either.

I don't write anything down, I play from memory...after playing awhile you will do things automatically...
We all learned a long time ago when using cheap irons that less spin meant we would be closer on mishits...as our games got better and we progressed to better clubs we were able to handle more spin because we had fewer mishits...I think we all agree with that.

I prefer the nikes with moderate spin for 2 reasons, 1 being I hit more dings with them vs the R11's with the slower meter(both club and ball), 2 I like the fact that there is more distance variation on the clubs from full b/s to full t/s and they stick better with very little backspin...when I ding a shot with either set they are pretty much right on line although I have noticed with the nikes I can miss a hair PAST the ding and it seems to hold the line better than when I miss it a hair early...

I tested the R'Bladez and R11's in 0 wind playing the same hole over and over again but haven't been able to do it with the Nikes yet....
I think it all comes down focus and ability to make the putts on shots that veer offline,to stay in the zone, the best of the best have the ability to do it, most of us just can't no matter how much we practice because it is not about  ability to play the game at some point....

a friend and I used to open bars and pool rooms, build the business up and sell them...I was a pretty good pool player, played a lot of B level pro tournaments and played money matches against a lot of the players you see on television...when your in the zone (as we called it) playing pool you are so focused you play almost without thinking and seem to do everything right...

I played with top professionals and stayed with, or was ahead of them many times, FOR ABOUT 1-2 HOURS that is, then the constant pressure to be perfect starts breaking you down, then your confidence fades...the difference is the best of the best(and right below them were the players like me) have developed the ability to control their nerves and emotions and stay super focused for 24 hrs if they needed to, and with little or no effort which very few of us can do no matter how hard you try...then add wife yells, phone rings, kids asking for, dog barks, washer quit working, mother in law coming to visit, daughter turns down scholarship to go to her favorite school with no scholarship, f'n Obamacare....were doomed!

some players choke or lose focus playing for $2 a game(Like a RG) and never miss when practicing, other players choke for $20 because they are not playing high enough to keep their attention(I should have said wagering since there are players who aren't focused because they are NOT playing "HIGH" enough or "TOO HIGH")...

when I played real golf  I could play X amount of holes as good as Tiger Woods could play them, problem was he plays all 18 like Tiger Woods, I play 6 like him, 6 like average Joe, and 6 like f'n Woody Woodpecker and it wasn't because of my clubs, or the course, or the bird chirping, and I think the same applies here, we blame everything else for our bad play when it's just plain us, we f'd up a weeeee bit and vem made us pay for it, just like we f up sometimes and it ends up perfect....I think the courses vem setup at that particular tournament has more to do with it than clubs do.

I have weeks when putts break funny, lip out, slower/faster, 3-4 days later I hit a putt so bad I throw the mouse and leave the room to cool off or get a snack, come back and it went in, WTF!!! Same thing with irons and it lasts a few days, and is worse on some courses than others...thats not clubs my friends...

Sorry!!! I'm done, just had to say that lol....

You are not talking about some unlimited CTTH crap are you??

I surely hope not....lol. In case you are.... it does not matter!!!!!!

Top earners are good players that have the time to play every ready go on the board. Some people choose not to do that...lol. Or.... don't have the time. Not to mention the many very good players i know that would be on top of leader boards easy...but do to State laws can not play in this crooked establishment.  :)

Read what Dan just posted,,,, same thing i just said in my last post. All these players can putt. These Nike irons are flying offline more for some than others,,, but bottom line they can putt.

Score nothing to do with irons.... nope. As well as they shouldn't. But i figured they would be at least more precise more often.

After reading a few threads on the new Nike L97's and having tried them myself with a few different ball combo's, it has become painfully obvious to me: WGT has figured out a gimmick.  By breaking out these new, ahem, "better" clubs, they've unlocked an incredible earning potential.  First off, $40 for the irons, so, ummm, kaching!  Then, for "testing" purposes, how much has everyone spent on buying sleeves of all kinds of various (garbage???) balls that have been on the shelves for months?!?!?!  It's effing genius!!!!!

Bingo!  When it comes down to a wtf,, that is where the score is shot. Either the putter did or didn't.

Jimbo started the post on Nikes flying offline on ding hits. I seen the same thing. More wtf's then with R11s.

Discussion continues....lol. I would love to have the Nikes for a month and keep stats to see where approach distance would actually be.

So why don't you instead of trying to participate in a discussion about them after only 1 measly rental effort?

Why??  lol  Because i just seen about 5 TL's buy them and are totally pi55ed off.

I rented them and seen the same thing. Easy for me to get into discussion about them.

Flying all over on ding hits. How many rounds do you have to play to figure that out Jim?? Question for you Jim... when you hit a ding shot and it flies offline.. can you see that it flew in wrong direction?? If so... how many times do you have to do that to figure something is not right??   I hope not to many....lmao!

So i have to pay $40 to see the same thing i saw when rented so then i can be pi55ed off like them??

LOL...... no thank you mate. I'm good.

One of the reasons Jimbog started this post. I would say my man is not happy. Also Jimbog is by no means a shabby player.

Interesting ongoing discussion. For now I think I'll stick with my VR/Nike L71 combo, it's not perfect (but then neither am I), but I think overall it beats the options (VR/Cally L33 or R11S/Nike) as I don't really want to lose the abilities of the HL Nike balls and the R11S set has holes (the famous 8i hole and the lesser known 6i problem of losing 20yds on misdings) which means overall the VR still wins. Although I concede that for the higher level players this may not be the case. That said I think I've got one Cally ball left so I think I may just have a play with that to have a looksee.

Edit: Firstly if reading this please take into account I'm not even close to the level of some (most) of the other posters in this thread, but: just played a CC Best of Famous with the Calloway L33i(s) (last one in my bag) and my VRs and as I said I'll stick with the VR / Nike combo. The Cally's did seem to hold the line slightly better but the roll out was a killer, I'd nail the distance and then all too often see it roll 6yds past and one went 10yds past the green on a ding (could of been a wtf).

    My GiR was 69%

Avg distance to pin was 11.9ft

Normally for me just lately whose figures are 89% and about 8ft my putting (1.33) saved me from a quite disastrous round. Additionally I couldn't ding my drives with a bell (luckily the R1s forgiveness saved me there).

I try and be objective in seeing what I see, and no one would like to see these things work more than me.

Now baby steps as I was about to give up on these irons.

My CC has a Kiawah B9 low wind, Legend Tourney greens and medium pin selection comp. going on.  Out came the L81 Nike Ball:

First round a 30 - happens and a good refresher, but mainly the irons felt OK.  Second go a very solid 28.

First par 3 long back left pin I miss dinged my 3 iron right, got ripped and rightly so, but stayed about pin high.

Second par 3 was also the long one so a 3 wood, no iron to test sensibly IMO.

Feeling very confident at the last I thought why not. 188 out, and only a 3MPH basically cross wind, but ever so slightly pushing along I thought lets see.  I wound the 5 iron BS to FBS hard against the dirt, and 100% power dinged.  Ball flew straight as an arrow just past the back left pin, and hopped back for a 6' down 2" almost straight gimme.

That last hole summed up the whole round.  Like using the R11s, but just better with some common sense appreciation of extra spin - not much more needed. I hasten to add I am not some one trick pony, FBS kid BTW before any one jumps on that.

Using these things was like throwing darts all the way round, and I could not fault one shot.

First to acknowledge no stern test of anything, but the last two days I would have been lucky to get within 15 foot at Beth in low winds with these in any comp.

Nothing has changed about the way I played these irons.  I like to think I am a level headed considered person who steps back to evaluate first. I can only report what I see, and do not usually come to these forums with poor rounds, but this was (well hopefully was and not just a blip) an ongoing problem.

As I mentioned before I did have a late couple of good signs, some time after the shelves of the high level Nikes got back on line.  Very likely 2+2 being made to = 5, and a zaney conspiracy theory.  I have no clue just as it happened is all I can say.

Better irons are only there to keep pressure off the putting as much as possible - basics.  These were failing miserably at that all over the place, no question at all.  I hope something close to these early signs of good (great) performance continues, and if it does I will test them out in a few RGs soon.

No more for me today as grass needs cutting lol Yep I am lucky enough to have been put in charge of doing that, as well as being chief taxi service for the kids, dog walker and broom up me ar$e allowed to sweep up at the same time. What was that fatdan said about focus:)
