Jimbog1964:

    BolloxInBruges:
In my own experience it's extremely rare for me to be greatly dissatisfied with the result of a dinged shot with nikes or R11s w/ any type of balls.  Bad shots almost always my fault.

Thank you for the comment - greatly appreciated.

This is why I came to the forums with this.  Like I say I think I am pretty level headed.  I  know my limitation's, but also my strengths.  Clearly people have been having different experiences which is why it was good to thrash it out I think.  Start getting too much in to how people miss the ding and it can muddy the waters.  Not many play the game to this persons standard but we all know how to hit a good shot fto the simple standard in question here.

A ding on a not much wind par 3 should not keep going so way off.  That was the final straw for me seeing that happen one time too many with a 172 yard easy enough simple 7 iron.

    fatdan:
and I think the same applies here, we blame everything else for our bad play when it's just plain us, we f'd up a weeeee bit and vem made us pay for it, just like we f up sometimes and it ends up perfect....I think the courses vem setup at that particular tournament has more to do with it than clubs do.

Dan I agree with much of your post, and much of this bit is human nature as well of course, but no this time there were (hope were, not are) real issues across the board.

Please don't take any of it wrong just my view trying to be clear with you and anyone else who may give a rats.

I did not crawl out from under some rock with this after three WTFs.  I had discussed it with sensible people even during play, and skyping discussing shots sometimes etc.

I know all about high level sport and the trials and tribulations of that. I played sport to a reasonable standard myself.  I spent the best part of the last 5 years running especially my eldest to various part of the State for elite football (soccer).  Culminated in a trip to England last year.  At that super elite level he never quite made the grade, but things up there would not even be spotted by most even half local coaches, and unless you test yourself at that level (years of hard work to) no one can tell anyway. I know all about sport, and the ranks and how they work on the way up.

I don't come here with every WTF round whether I think I had that poor round or not, just not me to bother.

I was though convinced this must be some sort of intermittent issue, and wanted the opinion of some good level headed reasonable players who all know how to hit a good shot.  I think this was achieved.

Nothing here is going to convict any one in a court of criminal law in a civilized country, but some of the findings are compelling.  One good player, could not get a ball to go straight and another, same ball, saw it going straight all the time and so on.  These are sensible people who play this game to a good standard, and can do so under testing conditions.

For the purposes of a simple test of equipment competency people like this should be listened to.

I hope my equipment generally performs same as it did my last few goes now. I don't and will never play this game to standard of this Bollox in all likely hood, but I am more than able to tell if it's me or the equipment performing that badly to the test required here.

I know all about the great divider that is sporting competition whether it's local park football or the cauldron of State Finals or trials for very elite teams; all about the highs of selection, of winning, the heartbreak of knock backs and losing the big one as must sometimes happen. Seen all about the celebration's for winning, and the gap analyses after losing, and the years of hard dedication and of sacrifice just to get that chance.

Yes been there seen it, have the video, got the tee shirt. and lived it for the last few years especially with the eldest boy.  After those years and before, I am well able to tell poor plays, good shot's at all the levels, condition's and all the different pressures that come with that etc........Now like I say compare that to RGs here if you like I know all about sporting competition.

As sure as god made little green apples there was an issue for the simple standard of test needed here. Lets hope it is in the past and has settled for all.  Thanks to all who have contributed, and I hope this can begin to fade.......(never realised I went on that long LOL).  Anyway Can only hope:)

Firstly i would like to apologize Jimbog for posting in this thread. Seems you can not give a honest opinion here without being a WGT basher.

Yups.... don't listen to me,,, because as the many have stated the Nike irons are awesome. I guess i'm just not the good of a player mate.

I just can't tell what a good shot is or isn't. I'm sure the shots i was seeing was my inability to aim correctly.

Figure my GIR is only 91% and change,,, which i'm sure again isn't that good,,nor is my 10 feet to hole average distance. I'm sure there are many players with way better stats then that. Not to mention i'm sure only having 3 days with them dinging shots is not hardly enough time. I'm sure it would probably take a long time to figure out how to ding these irons and aim correctly.

Soo again sorry mate.... please do not let my inabilities favor you in one way or the other.

Have fun with the new irons mate. Hit em well and good luck.

Thank you WGT if you had anything at all to do with this obvious correction.

Interesting thought, given no apparent update.  :-)

I think it might just be that way too many people just grabbed them and started playing with them with out clearing their cache. As soon as I find that there has been an update the first thing i do anymore is clear both caches. I never had any WTF shots that weren't caused by me just not hitting the ding.

Too many started playing without any thought about their cache which might have still held  some remnants of the R11 irons data. Then when they finally cleared their cache and the irons started working like they were supposed to they think WGT changed something.

Hi Joe ! Forgive my ignorance, but what does "clearing a cache" mean, what is it, and how is it done? I'm just so so with computers and most of the lingo because my utility serves my needs which are...well, my needs.

My cache is cleared whenever I change balls, clubs, sometimes after 3 birdies in a row and certain no less often then daily.

So now we are criticizing Thank you's.

Could it of been a big Fuc it since the wagon's were circling and certainly would not want things to get worse. HMMM

Or maybe things are clearly better and all is back to normal, who knows, I'll never tell.

But it is certainly not because of a dirty cache or Sanchez.

Just take your TY and STFU. :-) Notice the <-------Smiley, let not anyone get their undies in a knot.

If that were the case it would have affected ALL the balls, from Cally 33s to Nike 85s.  And that's not what players were saying.

No, certainly not a cache problem...most of us are aware of the need to clear caches after updates and after buying new equipment.

As I said before, I write it off as the price one pays for increased precision and spin.

Depends what browser you use Lily but basically the same for most. See link below which will explain it far better than I could.

If you're browser is not included, try googling "delete cache files in 'name of browser"

    Hope this helps...

Can't say the clearing cache thing has ever made one single bit of difference personally. If the game's off it's off and no amount of fluffing is going to give any improvement.

Just been knocking it around in the wolf creek CTTH, as Andyson said earlier it's a good way to get to know your irons. About the only conclussion I've come to though is being very tempted to leave the nikes in the shed on any high wind game. Still no idea how to control the length of shots into a stiff breeze!

Been re doing the 3rd (?) 188 shot to the top plateu into the wind to figure it out and I just can't dial in the right power with the right spin. Full 5 iron no spin rolls through and unless I ding a full 5 iron with 1/4 back spin it'll hit the slope and roll back. That's a VERY low chance of success with my approach to that hole.

Changed to the R11, full 5 iron with half back spin, missed the ding by a good 2 mm and finished at 4ft. Tried again, same wind and power/spin, hit the ding finished 4.5 ft. Tried a 3rd time same again and caught it early, finished 6 ft.

I'm just finding the R11 so much more reliable, consistent and ,crucially, forgiving.

Ok it's not going to give me that awesome drop and stop right on the pin shot the Nikes will give every now and then but I can live with that for a much more enjoyable time on here.
I'm sure the shots i was seeing was my inability to aim correctly.
18 months here; TL in 645 rounds; 10’ distance to pin and 65% one putts.  Only two possible causes for that after 1627 RRs:

    1. You are a the luckiest here even though who would not know the difference between a starter set and a better set.  In which case of course you had all the luck in one 18 month spell, and the balls miraculously finding their way to the hole against all your efforts just had to stop sooner or later.

    2.  Second possibility is that through hard graft you got better at the game, and can in fact tell the difference between a starter set and a better set. If that's the case one has to accept the fact that you can tell if a ball is going where you aimed it or not.

These forums are for opinion's, and thank you for yours. For one I will say My dulcet tones shall continue sweetly.

Interesting that on the last point when I was around 8 me and a mate were called to the front of a singing lesson by a nun. She said you are not singing.  I retorted because I can’t, and so the old bag made us sing.   Anyways the old sour then said you can’t sing, I replied I thought I already bloody told you that are you deaf.  Got in trouble for that one, but makes me laugh to this day.

Also very interesting though Jim is just how many were having the issue, and how considered in the approach. People should not lose sight of that aspect either it should be said IMO..

Nah whatever the cause was the effect was the effect was not missable.  Equally not missable was it stopping.  Don’t understand it.
