Purely a matter of interest as I am not looking to join another CC.

I have been here shy of 4 years and believe that CC's are often the lifeblood of the game.

Thats why I get frustrated at times when all updates are about "generating income" not aiding a facet of the game that itself generates more income (via ball usage) than any club sales from the pro shop.

The tools an owner has are.....well pathetic, from the admin tools to creating a club fund, but I digress.

In my 4 years I have belonged to 3 clubs, the first was a large club but left after complaining to the owner that supposed "tiered tournaments" were not adhered to....ever (this had been asked for gazillions of times before WGT finally introduced tiered comps). Ironically this club folded shortly afterwards.

The second was small and owned by a mate - little structure but a great bunch of guys. I was there 18 months but finally left after it stagnated . Sadly the day I left it was closed.

The final club (and I say that with certainty unless I get booted out) is by far the best run, innovative and exceptionally well organised club I have been in. I am sure there are other great clubs out there and behind every  successful  club is a very hardworking owner (an sometimes with helpers).

So how many clubs have you been a member of and why so few/so many...........or am I abnormal - wait - do not answer that.

    Alan

Only 1 club. I am the 4th owner. When I finally took over the club had 220 members down from 250. Those 30 left because there was a big fiasco going on when I was trying to take over. I have finally cut the membership down to 39. Most were excluded because they did not play in club tournaments. Hangers on are of no use to a club.

Now I will try to rebuild with players who will at least play in some club tournaments. Eventually will have our own website. Just need to find the time to do it.

I joined my first one soon after I started but then realised that just because a club claims lots of members it doesn't follow that they all still play. Then I joined this one as a Hack and made it to Tour Legend. Oh, and I became the owner along the way.

I joined wgt back in November 2013. Took me a year to join a cc as I wasn't sure I needed a cc to add to the experience. This past November I joined one, lasted 2 months before getting booted for having a difference of opinion with the owner. Joined 2 others in the span of 2 months and didn't stay long in either one as they weren't the type of cc I was looking for. Recently joined my 4th and looks like a good fit.

One thing about being in a couple of different clubs is you see what different cc's are doing and what works for you and what doesn't.

    In my opinion it would be a great benefit for the owner to be able to grant access to prospective members without them actually joining. As a prospective member I could then;

    1. Browse the forums and see the types of players that are involved in the club.

    2. Look at the types of tournaments that are being played and the participation level.

Different people are looking for different things in a cc and having access to the club before joining would give you enough info to make a much more informed decision.

    My two cents.

I joined WGT in Aug 2010, and became a member of the UNCC within 2 months. It was my first CC, and still is. The CC had only just started out when i joined. I am now the owner of the CC after it switched hands on a couple of occasions. This is proof that the running of a CC is not always a smooth thing.

After i joined the CC, i was almost about to quit, as i didnt know what i was doing. The owner at the time gave me some good advice, and im glad he did.

The best part about the CC is the live meets we have had. We have had members travel overseas and meet up, and i myself have met a few members (including an overseas member).

Running a good CC does take a lot of time and dedication, and having others giving a helping hand is a must.

EDITED: We have a website as well, and it can be viewed in this link:

    http://unitednations-cc.com/content.php

But folks can only browse the site after they have been accepted as a member of the club. After reading the above post, maybe its a good idea to at least throw out a bit of info on what clubs do.

I been here since May 2010. I joined my first CC that same month. The owner and I did not do anything to promote. I was always trying to get him to do different stuff and all he said was I will think about it.

So I left and tried another, in that one the owner and I didn't see eye to eye on am lots of thing and I left and started my own CC. At its peak we had 55 members and at first it did real well with at least a 75% participation rate, then it just fell off. I tried to keep it interesting with different tournaments and other things but to no avail.

I was playing with a friend that was a member of the second club I tried and he told me that they had changed owners and why not try it again. Since my CC was not doing so well I gave all members 6 weeks to decide if one wanted take it over and no one did so I closed it down and went back to that other club again. I have been there ever since. 3 plus years and counting

We at ECGA have a very well structured club with very few but important rules. WE are always looking for new and different types of tournaments to keep the membership happy and entertained.

Just like it real life there are good clubs and there are not so good ones, it all depends on what you are looking for.

    Ode to the Naive Golfer

As I stand with the wind to my back

    I’m playing against another hack

I dream of hitting the dinger

With the hopes of hitting a zinger

    Only WGT knows for sure

I hit the ball up into air

Where it lands I do not care

For my meter is on the fritz

And it is definitely the pits

    Only WGT knows sure

One never knows about the wind

It comes and goes like a whim

I strike my putt with a firm hand

It rarely goes where I command

    Only WGT knows sure

Hehe - I think I lucked out - a former LinksLS 98'er asked me to join ECGA in June of last year - my first and only club joined so far. I guess I am a "statistical flyer."

    On my 3rd club now.

First one I joined, I was booted after 3 days (and the club folded 2 days later).

I was then invited to join another CC where I progressed to being Tourney Director. Great bunch of people, most of whom I still play regularly with. Eventually became frustrated with low participation levels and little interest shown in new tournament formats so I left and decided to start my own CC, The Oddball CC.

Due to work commitments I decided that I could not offer the CC enough of my time and therefore handed it over to one of the members who is doing a great job running the club.

I am still a member there and now enjoy just taking part in the CC life without having to think up new formats all the time.
