    mrcaddie:
Strange, as I write this the orange CC invite button is blinking.

Wasn't me lol but I have a good idea who it was as I got one today too. Pretty unethical I think, randomly invited members who are already in a club - the owners of good clubs put in a ton of effort and deserve loyalty IMO. By all means if a player is looking via a forum post etc but poor form otherwise.

But back to the point, I am amazed that over half the respondents are on their  first  club, and having been here for a time - obviously choices well made at the outset.

But it is true, we join blind without really knowing the inner workings, participation (both playing and forums) as all we get to see is a listing of members.

I started on WGT at the end of October 2012. After approx 3 weeks I had progressed to Pro level and first posted on the forum asking for advice on clubs. Soon after this I received two invites to join C.C.'s. One was a small club with 20 or so members the other was a large club with just under 250 members. I accepted the invite from the larger C.C. and have been there ever since. So it's just 1 C.C. for me.

Good thread. There are probably at least a dozen bad ones for every half decent one.

I've only ever belonged to this one and I'm the owner. I'm wholly committed to making it the best possible club for our members. I spend little time in the game and put a heck of a lot of work into it.

There are many players who are drifters, there are many who are idle and there are a some who are active and participate. I've had several obnoxious players come to the club with the agenda to take it over and leave when they didn't get their way.

Fortunately the bad apples have left and the good ones have stayed and so it goes on.

You only need one good club but it depends what players are looking for. Clubs have different approaches and attitudes. Certainly not every player has what it takes to run a good club. I know a few excellent ones and I'd put ours up there with the best of them.

Your club has grown bigger and better for it Pete by the look of it.

2 former clubs, both large and both exceptionally well run.  ECGA was my first club, great club but just the wrong time zone for me and The Peoples Club.

Started Southern England Links around August last year and took the best bits from both of my former clubs, added some stuff and ended up with a very fine club with fine members.  Have had many people through the door and a few that have found the exit as quick as they arrive.  I never understand why players join clubs and do not participate AT ALL.

The good members, i'll fight tooth and nail for and have done in the very recent past, the bad uns don't get a second more of my time.  I don't have any time for bullies or abusive people in Southern, i've been called many things because of my stance on it and fortunately, that destructive element no longer plagues the club and we've continued to grow and add quality to the membership.

I see many clubs on here that rightfully have many a kind word said about them, testament to the owners who do put a lot of work into it for very little reward but equally, the members who make the club successful.  If you're in a good un, stay there it will only enhance your WGT experience.

    A-

No it wasn't you lol, it was actually someone else from my friends list who is venturing out on their own, so it wasn't random either.

Very true....and in my opinion the owner of the cc I'm in is up there with the best of 'em.

FYI- I respectfully declined the cc invite.

It took me 4 attempts to find my perfect cc,  my first I joined as a pro was a very large country club and it was intimidating seeing all those other members vastly superior to me.

The second was very forgetful, no forum chat, no tournaments I wondered why the owner created it.

My third was a good country club with very active members, though I had a major disagreement with one member so felt it best to leave.

Now I'm at Bridgestone, and can't see myself going elsewhere.  Though I'd sometimes like the opportunity to take a peek in other well run clubs, basically just to steal the ideas of others for my own cc.

There are a good number of well run country clubs in WGT and that is down to the dedication and commitment of the owners of those cc's and I can fully understand the frustration  those owners must feel when club members never involve themselves in any cc activities.

Looking back now, I guess I'm one of those intimidating players that scared the hell out me 4 years ago.

Fair comment this Steve.  I'd love to take the opportunity of seeing how others approach things... there's a good dozen clubs (of which Bridgestone are one) that i'd love to have a proper gander at, that look very organised and exceptionally run and judging by members comments, hats off to the owners and administrators of them.. Bridgestone, Wooden Tee, Deviations, Morningside, English lakes(who incidentally are currently taking Southern apart in Inter-cc) Cosa Nostra, to name just a handful off the top of my head, believe me there are many, many more that i'd like to 'pop in' to

Any owners are more than welcome to come and poke around Southern and see how the club is run, just drop me a line anytime and i'll set you up a forum account etc.
