Hole #4 is a 565 yard par 4?  What the f*** WGT!  They're surely not going to actually play from the old par 5 tee's in this years US Open!  That hole simply isn't reachable without a generous tailwind!

Yes the pro's will play from that tee in the Open. They change tee locations throughout the tourney, but at one point they will tee from that location.

I played it a couple times so far. I have yet to reach the green in regulation. Both times had headwind so no chance to reach green. I think the closest i have been is 50 yards.

Do have to understand though the pro's hit the ball a lot further than we can on this game. Most of the pro's will have no problem reaching the green in regulation.

Was just watching this weeks PGA Tour tourney. Seen Rory hit a 4 iron 245 yards.....LOL.  121 mph club head speed tends to do that. If course is dry and fast 350 yards + drivers will be common. Most of the pro's flat out bomb the ball. So will play a touch different for them.

The official Pinehurst website lists the 4th hole as playing 529 yards this year.  So does the official USGA website.  I personally guarantee that they will not be using the old par 5 teeing ground at any point in this years US Open.

I just did a quick look. You are correct listed at 529 for the Open. I even checked Pinehurst site it self. Said same thing.

Hmm.... normally when they do a course we play from the tee the pro's hit from. Maybe going to play off that tee one day in the tourney?

    Is listed though at 529.

    Once again I doubt it.  You say that Rory smoked a 4-iron 245 yards, but that's not fully representative of what the average tour pro can do.  See, Rory's one of the bigger hitters on tour, and the average driving distance on tour (amongst measured drives) is actually 287 yards;

When setting up the tees and the par score, the USGA must ensure that, under normal wind conditions, even the likes of Jim Furyk (276 yard average drive) can reach every green in relegation, albeit with difficulty.  Meanwhile the reward for being a long hitter should be shorter irons to the green on par 3's and 4's and a chance of getting there in two on par 5's, not the ability to reach the green in two on par 4's where others can't.

Unfortunately, I don't think there's much that WGT can do about it now.  The qualifiers have already begun using the old par 5 teeing ground, so it looks like we'll have to just play it as a par 5 disguised as a par 4.

tl;dr most players on tour don't routinely hit the ball 300 yards, therefore I can't see the 565 yard tee being used.

I got you for sure. The hole though does play downhill a good bit. If they do not use that tee i will wonder what WGT was drinking that day.  :)

I think Wgt has got it right with the 4th hole.  That hole could be the make or break hole.

At this stage all the other holes can be a Birdie. The only hole on the course that's a toss up (wind conditions) for birds is the 4th.  The hole is reachable in 2 shots, except in a headwind (depends on clubs I suppose, maybe balls) or a lucky good shot

I like to share my great pleasure of getting a Bird on every hole,  I just have to find a way to put em all together in one round....lol

    I've only had 2 full completed rounds...  first was a 66 and second was a 62, with 2 boges....ugh.

No doubt about it. One miss hit shot with a headwind and looking at a bogey. I have only played twice and yet to reach the green. Got two lucky pars. Really i'll take par there every time.

Par on that hole is great.  You need the L89 Bertha 3wood.  Might make the difference.

Just on another thing about this course...   I can't remember which hole (my old brain...lol)  but if your approach shot comes up short...  it will land on the green, but will roll back and keep on rolling back, back, back until it stops in the bunker....lol and you will be fuming, saying every swear word known to anybody....lol , but then, I would have a grin too.

You only see those things in Real Golf Comps....  when you see the ball roll back into the water.

This is a great new golf course  Wgt...  My big thumbs up

hopefully wgt change the hole to 529yds at some point during the next few months , it will still be a tough hole but it would be nice to have a long putt for birdy, its a great course and really good fun on uneven lies, never thought wgt would make a mistake on the length of a hole, very strange
