Beutiful course, but as others have mentioned, the majority of the greens are just too flat for my liking...reminds me of BPB in a way, which is not good :)

Think we got spoilt with Merion last year and we were hoping for something similar, but Merion is unique no doubt.

Very nice course and a very nice job from what I have seen so far.  Only done the F9 with a cheap ball to get a feel for things, but comparing it to any other course is an injustice all round I think.

I don't agree that it is too flat at all personally.  I can see that there are some real low scores sitting out there for sure, but miss the ding too much or get the distance wrong and you can roll off easy.

Lovely course, and enjoyed on it's own merits a good time to be had.

EDIT: That first super long par 4.  Not reachable unless a helping wind, but even then it's risk reward as out of place can leave a "Merion esque" putt.  I think just enjoy the course for what it is and how superbly photographed.  It's also another reason why random winds are not what a player wants, but that's for another thread.  Just played that F9 again and had a tail wind for the long par 4 and the par 5.  Some top player in a final with two putts versus another with two pitches just because of random winds....Anyway another thread a sit is a lovely course.

Just finished my first ever round at Pinehurst, a 79 in the open qualifier.  Looks like I won't be making the cut, LOL (I know its unlimited play, but with my clubs from the Yellow tees, I just don't have the skill to lower this score much).  I ****ing 3 putt the 12th from 3.7 or something feet, but other than that I really don't think the greens are going to be too bad.   I was worried that the greens would have a bunch of slopes and valleys like Oakmont and Merion, but so far I haven't been seeing that much.

13th hole was good fun for me; fairway & green in regulation, 2 putts, and a bogey!

(yes I putted off the green, yes I should take a note or two on this hole)

Played last night in the qualifying just to get a feel for a real round version practice.

It is obvious that it is going to take a good score to qualify and that you need to keep good notes on this course, especially on where on the green to land the ball.  I'm wondering if there are other sets of pins that will be used during the tournament and if so where will those be located, might make it tough if they spring new pins on us for the last 2 rounds.

I like the four round approach, think that is a much better way than the 2 round method.

One thing I did notice.  I played 2 times, First time I hit it in the trap left of #4 with my BB three wood, hit early or it would have been on the green.  Next time around into a 14 mph wind I hit driver, 3 wood and still had 50 yards to the pin.  That hole is a little too long in my opinion.

Overall I like the course and feel that it is a good representation of the actual course.  The fairways are pretty generous and the greens very difficult unless you put the ball in the right place.  You can easily chip and even putt the ball off the greens.

I'm hoping that the four rounds have a good variety of winds and green speeds.

and the greens very difficult unless you put the ball in the right place.

To this point, there's an enhancement to the greens that's pretty consistent. The greens are shadowed on the down slopes as seen from the aerial shots. Very helpful in figuring out where to land and what's going to happen when you do.

    More here with pictures.

Bravo WGT on Pinehurst.  First impressions: There is certainly a premium on driving in the fairway and hitting the ball in the right place on the green.  You are rewarded for good shots and punished for poor ones - the way a great course should be.  Beautiful presentation as well.  If you put it in the fairway, this is definitely a second shot course.  I thought I birdied the longest par 4, with a 4, ha ha on me.  Love it.

I don;t agree with the comparisons with BPB.  Those greens do not have the extreme fall offs that this course has.  Also, no rough here - just waste areas and bunkers.  This is a welcome addition to the WGT courses.
