Thanks for the link!   I was in a poor mood all day because we didn't get what we wanted.  This turned it around.

I had a nice round with the irons and wedges, doing most of my scoring with those.  The ball stops quite well, even with long irons on champ greens, thanks to the receptive upslopes.  I only had one approach get away, a backer-upper on 18.  There isn't a no-margin-for-error Merion 5/6/15 on the course, at least not with these pins.

I only had two putts that broke more than a foot per 10 feet of length, which I suspect was incredibly lucky.  The break on this putt on 6 started like I thought it would, then kicked away...there was no sign of that on the putt or chip grids.

The 620 yard 10th is reachable, even on a missed ding, with the stupidly good Big Bertha and a 14 tail.

A guess:  the cut will be 56.

How about a semi-coded  blog post on your profile with hints how "not" to make it work? ;)))

Or tell one person in a private message and get them to pass it on :-)

It'll be like when Cadbury's tried to launch a new bar of chocolate into the Far East using viral marketing. They got one person to tell their friends, then those friends had to tell their friends, and so on. A few links down the chain, nobody knew what they were supposed to be looking out for. And it's why Chinese Wispas never took off over there....

I just played FIFA 2018 and it's brilliant.......

Thanks for the link, this course is sweet. I'm going to have to invest into a new 3wood, I can't reach any par 5 nor the gigantic par 4 4th hole. Haven't scored well my first 2 plays around but I'm sure once I get into the swing of things I'll do better. One thing I've noticed is that I'm suddenly becoming more careful about the amount of backspin I do. Usually for shots outside of wedge length I do full backspin most of the time. On holes here, though, I find myself backing off that quite a bit due to some of the severe slopes. I kind of like it, this course is really strategic around the greens. It is easy to bomb pretty much every fairway though, so that balances it out a bit.

Really enjoying the course after a couple rounds, difficult but fair.

Some of these greens definitely have places you don't want to be - at least on champ speed.  I had a putt a little while ago (don't remember the hole) where I went long and above the cup.  Showing 9.5 feet and down 3 inches I hit with 4 feet of power - and it went 24 feet.  I did manage to sink the 13.5 footer for par but that was very Merion #3 ish.

If I remember right from the past two years the qualifying will be set up as moderate winds and TM Tourney greens.  I'm not sure the cut will reach down to 56 though - maybe if the conditions are benign and people get used to the best approach placements for each green.

Just played 18 holes.  Enjoyable round but not terribly difficult.  Managed 5 birdies could have done a little better but wanted to try the sand, rough, etc. to see how it played.   Fairways are pretty generous so not difficult to hit them.  it is hard to get the ball in the right position on the green to make birdie and it seemed at least 5 holes played off the measurement.

I do agree though cut will be 56 or 57
