WGTadmin2: There is no response from me on this tread because you are discussing how a handicapping system should work and I really have no input. Yes a universal WGT would be nice, but like all features some people will hate it. So we are just reading and learning as you discuss the merits.
So, since you're actually reading the threads and weighing the merits, let me give you a real-life example why a handicap system is a good thing.
In real life, I began teaching a 12 year old girl the game of golf from the ground up. She has been playing now for six months, and looking back, is easily a better golfer than I was after six months of lessons and game play.
I went out with her this last weekend ... I played scratch and she played with a set handicap of 18 (because she has only played real golf 3 times, but has an extremely good game).
The outcome ... I shot a + 6 - 78 from the white tees. She shot a +20 - 92 from the reds.
On the gross, I clearly won by 14 strokes ... but on the net, she won. She's still talking about it ... 3 games out and beat a scratch golfer.
So ... for your newbies ... if they play a legend straight up, like Aly, they don't stand a chance ... but give them a handicap and the game becomes competitive for both the Legend and the Hack golfer.
Obviously, a handicap system has merits, and will add a more competitive nature to the game. The only decision WGT needs to make is what's the best possible handicapping system available for this game and then write the code.
