If playing out of the rough is suddenly such a change, concentrate and practice not hitting it in the rough. The top players will see no change as they just don't hit it in the rough anyway.
I admit I was wrong about this little change. I said when it happened the tears would dry after a week. Seems it's taking a little longer but we'll get there.
I'm not perfect driving, but have been fair enough, but WGT has even changed the deviation for missing the ding so even that is a move against players like me who have bought drivers based on the clubs published performance. I understand there will always be "yes" men who will defend the company line. They are a dime a dozen on the open market. A guy who will speak the hard truth, now that is something a little less common, though not as pleasing to the status quo.
I sell you a beautiful Degas painting. At some point a while later I decide there should have been a different color on one section of the painting. In the middle of the night I post a note on your door vaguely saying I'm making a change to make the painting better, slip into your house, and change the painting which you bought. You now do not have the original painting, the painting now is a hideous version of its former glory, and some are calling it "wonderful" because, of course, there is always someone who likes a Piccaso when he could have had a Degas.
Such seems to be the ongoing pattern here.
PS: Im no Piccaso either.
You know, I am the first to agree and complain about the inconsistency and downright goofy decisions WGT makes, BUT, your example in this case, while sounding good, actually is apples to oranges. To correct it:
You are never selling a Degas to Cerino, you are licensing the right to Cerino to hang it n his wall, almost like letting him rent it. You still own it, and as such, have the right to change it in whatever way you see fit at any time (thats in the little fine print we all ignore). Especially because its not even really a Degas yet, but more like a Degas beta... an almost-Degas.
Cerino however is under no obligation to like the alterations you make to the painting (also in the fine print), and further, has no obligation to continue the licensing agreement, and can therefore terminate it at any time he wishes by returning the painting to you.
SO basically, all you, and by example WGT, have done is screw up a perfectly good Degas, and potentially lost (whoever doesn't like the change) a customer or client.
Yeah changing stuff sucks, and shouldn't be done willy-nilly, but if WGT isn't smart enough to listen to community suggestions, or continues making changes that p!ss people off, they will lose customers. But its their game, not ours, and therefore their right. Those opposed can head elsewhere.
PS - as long as the change is consistent I actually think the rough change is a good thing, as no wedge in real golf behaves like the clevelands did in game.
