The tournament is underway, and first blood has been drawn!

Well actually slightly more than first blood, St Andrews is littered with corpses!!!

The true heavyweight pair of Cyl6 and Paulmcm turned over kam4122 and Nickolijj in a thrilling 9 hole battle winning 1 up.

The card is attached, and while Monty and Jared knocked in a good score, Paul and Clarence dovetailed beautifully to score their birdies when it mattered!

Well done guys, a brilliant match to play in, great sportsmanship, and hope to get an opportunity at some point to get it back!

    Cheers

    Monty

We've just played and won our first group match:

    paulmcm & cyl6 1 up against kam4122 & nickolijj.

A very tight game that went down the last.

The first 3 holes were halved with Birdies, pars, birdies. Monty did have a chance to win the 2nd, but got metered on his putt.

On the 4th we had the front pin with wind against and all 4 players made the green but with very tricky putts.I was first to putt from 14ft and holed it, monty and jared both missed their putts, so we were 1up.

    5th was halved with birdies.

6th - monty played a great approach to 5.5ft and made his putt for birdie to make it A/S

On the 7th Jared took a little too much off his drive and it bounced short of the fairway and was extremely unlucky to find 40/50 rough which was masquerading as fairway - i think the greenkeepers were on strike. Monty's approach grew wings and went 16ft past, Clarence hit a great approach to 3ft and holed his putt after Monty had missed to put us 1up - i must mention Jared's recoverey, he very nearly holed out with his 3rd from the rough, stopping less than 1ft from the hole.

On the 8th we had the front pin and wind behind, i was closest of the 4 at 33ft from the hole, we all got close with our putts but no one made birdie, so it was halved in par.

The 9th was wind against, so no chance of driving the green, which meant a holed approach was needed to realistic force sudden death - it wasn't to be, although Jared's approach only needed 2ft more and it was in all the way.

    Thanks guys, most enjoyable match.

I think what you guys experienced will very much be mirrored in all of the games. The standard of player is high and the likelihood is that it will come down to who can sneak a birdie on 2, 4 and 8.

You certainly don't want to be 1 down after 5 holes, the chances to get it back are slim......

It was a great match, with some great shots. Paul's putt on 4 was probably the key to the match. Taking that 1 up lead, we were able to withstand some great shots by Monty and Jared (and some bad luck on their part) to hold on.  Great match, always fun to play with those 3 great guys and players.

Rumour has it that the 'deadly duo' of Coolswing & Plim are up against the 'spanish flair' of Villa and Seve tomorrow!

    Time to be confirmed.

I think there are bucket loads of bragging rights at stake in this one!

    Good luck Gentlemen.

Coolswing didn´t come. Rumour has it that Plim and him had an argument, and Cool had to be taken to hospital afterwards.

on a serious note lets hope Vic and his family weren't caught up in the terrible floods that have hit that part of oz where he lives, I have a feeling the reason for a no show has something to do with this weather event. lets hope Vic and his family are safe and well.
