Sorry about that, we should've been more on the ball in terms of reporting.

    Craiger85/BarryCooke def. GladstoneScrewer/ClarkeBosun 2&1

Match started with 4 birdie putts, but I was the only one able to convert. C/B 1 UP

On 2, Gladstone and Clarke both drove right, Clarke into the rough, Gladstone into the fescue. Barry and I both had birdie putts at the new pin, and I was able to make my breaking 20 footer for a 2 UP lead.

On 3, there are again 4 birdie putts, but Gladstone sinks his and Barry and I are unable to make ours, shrinking the lead to 1 UP.

No one hits the green on 4, and Clarke gets his chip in tight to lock up a par for his team. After I miss my par putt, Barry sinks a 10 footer for the halve.

Both teams birdie 5, 6, and 7 to halve the holes.

On 8, I hit my tee shot to the old pin just into the back fringe, about 24 feet away. Everyone else is on but short of the pin, 24-30 feet away. From off the green, I'm able to sink my birdie putt. Clarke and Gladstone are unable to make theirs, and the match ends 2&1.

Thanks to Gladstone and Clarke for a great match.

    ***Competition Update***

Matches have progressed well in most groups, with a couple of major upsets which have cost the bookies dear... Big congrats to all the pairs who have made it through already to the last 16!

In the top half of the draw - Windermere, Coniston, Derwent & Ullswater all but 2 games have been completed.

In Windermere, could Lawman48 (Pete) please take on the mantle of group captain and push the last game through, and provide or give us feedback on the current status?

In Coniston, could Seve please take on the mantle of group captain (as Plim is busy with me planning other aspects of the comp) to assist to push the last game through? I am liking all the pre match banter, but logical next step is to actually play... :-)

In the bottom hallf of the draw - Thirlmere, Buttermere, Grasmere & Bassenthwaite I have seen prettier looking train wrecks!

So to try and drive this forward can the following take charge of their groups....

Thirlmere - Can Mightyred (Stu) take ownership and work to schedule all the matches?

Buttermere - Can MJS74 (Martin) take ownership and work the matches to a conclusion?

Grasmere - Can Mike take the helm and push the matches on?

Bassenthwaite - Can Bluescouse (Sean) assist by pushing the final match over the line?

Please provide Plim and I with feedback as soon as is possible, we are removing the deadline temporarily as the bottom half of the draw was subject to a couple of replacements being brought in, but we do have to move on at some point, soon preferably.

If games are proving impossible to schedule, let us know, and certain matches will be split into two singles with cards submitted to calculate matchplay result. However this is a last resort as it is not inkeeping with the spirit of the competition as a whole.

We plan to kick off the last 16 next Monday (10th) pairs will have 2 weeks to complete their fixture, so if you have group matches still to play running past the 10th it will leave you with limited time to play your next match!

Any probems, please let Plim or I know!

    Cheers

    Monty

    Fortesque99 & Bristowpegs def Dougbieker & Lawman48 1up

We got the quick start with Fortesque the only one to sink his birdie putt at the 1st, then Bristowpegs was the only one to hold his nerve on the greens at #2 to win it with a par.

After the tee shots on the 3rd, there was a disconnection, and due to time issues, we started again from 1, but played it as if it was our 3rd onwards...

There was a comeback, and some lovely shots, but we were able to hold on for the 1-UP win.

Scorecard for round 1 match between the Spanish connections and Plim and I -

A great match played in wonderful spirit among good friends and the Spanish connections took out the game on the 1st extra hole playoff with 2 birdies.  Well done guys, I must say you were a little lucky that my partner and I had problems with meters otherwise we 'd have shot you down nicely ! lol ! :-)

Good luck to you both Seve and Villa, i think you guys will go far in this tourney as long as you maintain that Spanish communication which completely baffles us ! lol !

As the top half is ready to play the second round, lets get that going. Bottom half of the draw we look forward to you catching us up!

    Round 2 Conditions

    St Andrews back 9

    White tees for all

    Low wind

    Easy pins

    Very fast greens

It is a rare calm day at 'Andy's'

    Lets see some low scoring!

    Cheers

    Group Matches

Group leaders - for group stage matches which are proving difficult to arrange as a 4 ball, you can now schedule these matches in 2 pairs.

The English Lakes player should play the opposing guest in a 9 hole, strokeplay format (ranked round) and post the scorecard to the main thread.

I will calculate the matchplay result from the two submitted cards.

If extra holes are needed to decide the match I will inform the players concerned, and the players should go back out in their pairs and play the first 2 holes, and on the third hole play to nearest the pin in regulation. The players should post their card showing the first two holes score, and verify each others nearest the pin distance on the third hole on the thread. I will calculate who has won the sudden death or 'plimalty' shootout from the information submitted.

    Any questions please ask!

    Cheers

Add this to an upcoming MJ/Dougie card.

Tough round for both of us really, I just going a little in the middle of it. Save the stupid bunker on #5.
