On another note ... Ivor Robson, the starter of the Open Championship for 41 years with the distinctive high pitched voice, is due to retire after this event ... thank you Ivor for all those years of service !!!

again, down to the tournament committee.

most likely the groups will be 3 ball - not 2 ball - in the 3rd round, if they need to catch up time

They said on the BBC earlier that all players would start at hole 1 but that could change depending on the weather. They also said that one option they have for tomorrow to make up time if needed would be to have the 3rd round groups be 3 players instead of the traditional 2.

In all the years of watching the Open, it is very rare indeed that the tournament does not finish on a Sunday. They always somehow manage to get around weather delays.

Of course years ago a tie meant an 18 hole playoff on the Monday, the most famous being Doug Sanders missing a short putt on 18 and then losing the playoff to Jack Nicklaus the following day.

John Daly won his Open in '95 after an abbreviated 5 hole playoff on Sunday against Constantino Rocca.

How late does it stay light enough to play?

Not sure but about 19.30 / 20-00 pm. Here in DK is gets darker much later in summer.

Probably the local guys have it right.

Heh, looks like the leaders get to play speed golf with tee times as late as 18:15.  :-D

I'm about 12 miles from St.Andy's and it would still be light enough to play, depending on cloud cover, upto 9:30 p.m.

According to BBC Weather sunset today for St. Andy's is at 9:47 p.m.
