Again, more proof you have no idea what you are talking about. Trees? Chambers has no trees on the course at all. There is one tree just off the course behind the 16th tee box. By the way, St. Andrews has just one tree also. (but it's not Links, right?) Oh, and the picture, that is not Chambers Bay. Fescue not native to the Pacific NW? Huh, what are you smoking? Gorse is an invasive species and Bandon spends thousands every year trying to control it. Chambers has hillsides filled with Scots Broom. Try going to the website: www.chambersgolf.com
I did not say last century, I said last HALF century! And that is true. No course built in American since 1961 has been given the honor of a US OPEN, except Chambers Bay! That's right, the youngest course on the Open list is Hazeltine, built in 1961. So, instead of attacking me with your ignorant remarks, try learning some facts. Again, go the web page above and check out the golf rankings from around the world. Chambers was just selected to be among the top 100 courses in WORLD. This is not my opinion, it's the opinion of experts! Read the reviews. Debating someone so ignorant of the facts is like a battle of wits with an unarmed man.
It is one of the main issues with the selection of Chambers Bay for 2015 US Open, that they are having problems growing in the fescue into the course. Obviously you are not well informed about golf related news. Just because they cut down trees that were on the site before to make it look more like a links course doesn't mean that the trees are not native.......to Oregon!!!!! Oregon!!!!!!! There are trees everywhere!!!! Gorse is considered an invasive species because it is not native to Oregon, it was brought from places like the British Isles and introduced to the area. And you still havent answered why a" real links course" needed to artificially shape mounds and move in 1.4 million cubic yards of dirt!!!
I miswrote in my previous post about the full century, but all of the courses I listed before were built in the last 50 years. You tried to tell me that Chambers Bay surpasses Sand Hills, Cape Kidnappers, Pacific Dunes, Bandon Dunes, TPC Sawgrass, Kiawah Ocean Course, Muirfield Village, The Golf Club, Harbour Town, Kingsbarns, Loch Lomond, Old Sandwich, The European Club, Spyglass Hill, Casa de Campo, The K Club, PGA West, Cabo del Sol, Hazeltine, and Valderrama. THEY ARE ALL BETTER GOLF COURSES. Just because because one course hosted a major and another one didnt doesnt mean the course that hosted the major is better. Shinnecock and Winged Foot could have easily hosted the 2015 US Open, but they rejected it because the US Open trashed their courses the last time around. So by your definition, you are basically saying Chambers Bay would be better than better than Cypress Point and Pine Valley (yes i know these havent been built in the past 50 years but this is what you imply) because PV and CP havent held a US Open. Once again, you know nothing about golf.
