Jim, on second thought, your question is legitimate and crucial, and demands a renewed effort on my part, though I did state that the bigger the number, the bigger the break. Indeed, "moderate" is a relative and abstract notion, and based on the idea of a stopwatch, it should be clarified. First, look at the pace of passing seconds on a watch (you can use http://www.online-stopwatch.com) to internalize it, and later apply it to the gauging process. Then you take as a point of reference a grid line where the balls indicating break travel approximately at a rate of 10 seconds. That will be a moderate break, represented by the number 1. Slower may be 1/2, faster may be 1,5, 2, 2.5, 3, etc. Again practice and experience are essential, and you will learn to make subtle adjustments depending on the speed of the greens. Mind you, all the greens on wgt are often tough to read, especially when the front and reverse views are oddly different, or even contradictory (grrrrrrr). I tend to rely predominantly on the front view, while taking the reverse view into consideration, and as a rule, when I miss the hole, it is by a maddening small fraction, due to a slight miss-gauge or miss-hit.

Incidentally, I must thank all the bright players who have contributed to this thread, and helped me improve my putting formula. Weida is one of them, and now you, Jim. Again, thank you.

    G0LD:
    thank you

Actually, it is we, who are trying to make sense of this game, who should thank you. I'm looking forward to applying your concept. Heh. With any luck, I might actually start sinking a few more putts, especially those long ones that I'm used to guessing at and firing blindly.

    G0LD:
    miss-hit

Don't know about others, but since I got the Method putter, along with balls with 2 dots of feel, my percentage of dings has gone through the roof.

    Thanks again.

Nice of you to say those kind words, Jim, thanks. As for my slight miss-hits, despite my Nike putter and balls, I keep having to forgive my old, disabled self. My eye and hand coordination pales in comparison with that of suncity28 (look at his stats. Stupendous), but that's life. And if you, Jim, can ding most of your putts, great; I'm sincerely happy for you.

Figured it out and WOW this freakin is amazing. the only way you miss is if you make small errors in power and on the bar. brilliant. made the game so much more realistic and enjoyable.

The only question i have is which side of the grid do you start from the hole is 0 or 30?

Thank you, solsen1985. 30 is the number of increments between the hole and the line of the grid next to it. Actually, every square in the grid is divided in 30 increments sideways.

I will post a slightly updated version of my formula in the not to distant future, with a few additional tips, which include some of my explanatory comments in this thread. Hope it will help.

    All the best!

    Hello,

Noticed that you had figured it out and would like to know how. My putting needs improvement and would have better average score if I could get this putting down to a science. Ready for Tour Pro tier.

    Thanks

    Joe

Remind me not to invite you to a match, I would fall asleep waiting for you to putt. I really don't have 8hrs to waste on a 9hole match. Hit the damn ball!

Practice, practice........x3........x4........x5, it takes a long long time. But that's where scores can really be lowered.
