The circle is around a parallel line. The arrows point to the first and last parallel lines. You rate the speed of the dots along each line. In the picture there are 10 parallel lines you need to consider so you will have ten of those little numbers you add up. You're not counting the number of dots on each line, you rate how fast they move along it.

Again, Gold, please correct this if it's wrong.

Thanks, GC, but it's Gold's brain that got us here.  ;-)

Knowing what you know now, if I told you all of the dots were moving at the same speed-slow, or a 1, what would your aim correction be?

Every time this thread comes up - I have to chuckle - snort even. Who has the time and patience to count and rate moving balls, then do calculus, trig and algebra equations (or whatever this purports to be) to make more putts? To each their own, of course however can anyone imagine say Bollox doing any of this? No - because the best putters on here have a combination of experience and 'feel'. The latter especially can never be replaced with mathematical equations - you still have to actually make the putt no matter how well you line it up. In real life you have to 'read' the putt, factor in wind and elevation, and make a good stroke. Same here. And also like in real life, sometimes you do all that and miss - WGT has its own version of spike marks and pebbles on the green, as we all know. Putt more and calculate less I say! Read it, hit it, move on to the next one...and I could not say any of this if my own putting stats were not pretty decent (and only improving)...no offense to Gold.

Ya, sk's right if you want to be a stick in the mud. A little fun on the side comparing methods is never a bad thing. FWIW, his putting average is 1.54. Gold's is 1.43.

I got something different,GC. 19 +2 is the distance, there are 10 1's so 21x10=210 divided by the 10 lines gives you 21.

    I think.  LOL   ;-)

The formula, has defects, 1) lets say you see a dot as a 3, and I see as a 5 that's  going to change the out come.

    2)  If the finale answer  lets just say 18.88 to move and you move 20.00 thinking you moved 18.88 you just missed.

I guess my point is, it's a hit and miss thing. I thank the guy for taking the time to figure that formula,I just think there is to many holes in it........LOL

YJ - I get that your response is somewhat 'tounge in cheek' - yes, Golds stats are a bit better than mine; having said that the 'putting average per hole' stat is pretty much meaningless. What matters most is - percentage of putts made (by distance), percentage of 1 putts vs 2 putts, and also scrambling stats (plus average proximity to hole). Putts per hole is gibberish really. More ranked rounds gets one away from early hack/amateur numbers (like putts per hole) that were pretty bad - which means I am well on my way to comparable stats to a top Legend like Gold. Just sayin...hit em straight.

And do not forget that in putting, simply plumb bob the thingamajig, crouch down like Villegas in your best Spidey outfit for a look see, toss a bit of grass from waist high by releasing same from between thumb and forefinger, wet index finger and hold high, check your reverse view, pull the pin, adjust to elevation, calculate your meter 'pull', scratch *** and bend over it - then give it( the ball, not ur ***) a whack and say a prayer. LOL

So Jim, you aim 21 inches off the hole in your example?

    Edit:

Never mind, since the grid is "30", you would be aiming at roughly 2/3rds of the grid size.

I guess you still have to factor in when the grid is not starting square on the hole.
