To coin a phrase, "be careful what you wish for".  You might just find out that it's not really what you wanted.....

Right on...oh how I wish for my TM days...lol

Played the monthly Stroke play as a new Legend, 1st round, shot a 78......(police cut me down from the bridge), came back, shot -10..woo hoo...just made the top 100 position. Leader on the board....-19!!!!...never in a 1000yrs can I ever see me scoring that.

I have read, understood, and valued every input in this thread, and there is no doubt in my mind that we can find a justification for leaving the legend tier as it is or splitting it, with sub-60 legends being grouped in an upper champion tier, with further and tougher hole locations, and championship greens. Mind you, the calculation of the average in its current format, with a set number of ranked rounds beyond which this average can no longer increase, only decrease, as a player posts a low enough score, however rarely, is a definite problem that needs to be addressed, as it leads to painful absurdities.

Having said this, I invite everyone to go back in time and reflect on the uproar that the introduction of the legend tier initially created. Many good tour masters were promoted overnight to the legend status, with harder playing conditions that often put them off, as they pulled them out of their comfort zone. And yet, months went by, the uproar slowly subsided, and top players who at first were struggling to achieve a 61 or 62 average, started to break the 60 barrier, and dip in the high 50's. In short, legends learned to adapt and make sense of their new tier.

Wgt is a living entity that grows and changes with time. The logic of its nature as a business demands it. The legend tier made sense within that logic, as it created a new challenge and a new need for equipment upgrades. Likewise, and for the same reasons, an upper legend tier, called champion, makes sense, though it is imperative that wgt, prior to the expansion, modifies the formula for calculating averages, so that the latter always retains its potential for both increases and decreases, in order to better reflect the true skill of a player. The odd bad game could be rightfully ignored in the calculation, but not all of them, which is pure nonsense.

Well that's not only because players adapted it's also because new equipments were introduced.

At that time the big driver was not there and the callaways/nike ball was not yet introduced. Each hole were something like 20yds longer than there are now. Indeed, it's quite common now to hit a 295-300 yds drive (without significant wind) while at that time the standard was more like 275-280 yds. This means that you had to use longer iron on your approach and those irons were also much less precise. They had also less spin, like the ball, making the approach more hazardous and the ball rolling much more.

So surely that players adapted, but equipments played a significant role in this evolution.

You are right, genorb, and as I said, a new upper legend tier with tougher playing conditions would logically be accompanied by new equipment upgrades.

But again, wgt must first fix their average formula, which is undeniably flawed.

Interesting thoughts about the various TIERS and "Legends" issues.  Hey....you all know that in the PGA, there's a "Senior's Tour"....right.  OK, how about WGT creating a "Senior's Tier"?  You know, for those of us over 60 years old who have "slower" reflexes than all you "young" WGT players.....ha!

Of course, I have come to learn in the 2+ months....that upgraded clubs & balls definitely can improve one's game.......just don't have any plans to dump a bunch of money here for better clubs.  But, I really am enjoying these courses and the competition!

I would like to see the Wolf Creek (Nevada) open for all to play....without having to pay or use credits.  Beautiful course and looks very challenging....I've enjoyed playing the "closest to the hole" challenges on that course.

I doubt a senior tour will ever happen, since wgt, unlike the PGA in the real golf world, has no way of verifying the ages of its players. So young cheaters would have a whole new realm of potential sandbagging.

I wrote the original post about a possible WGT "Senior's Tour".......Yes...you have a very good point.  Just no way to "verify" AGE on this website.  Unforunately.....I have to honestly admit.....I turned 62 in December.  Being semi-retired (back at age 58)....I do have a lot of free time..................to play WGT golf.  This website is about as REAL as it gets...I'm really impressed.  Though, the graphics at a couple of the courses are very "realistic"....but, still fun to play.  Being a professional Landscape Architect for over 34 yrs...I was working over a drawing board (doing very detailed work)...and I have played REAL golf.....just feel my "eye - hand coordination" should be BETTER on my WGT play...well, I need a LOT of practice!

And after 2-1/2 months of play, I have come to realize that...in order to accomplish LOW levels...you just HAVE to have upgraded "clubs & balls".  Definitely very "challenging" using only "starter clubs & balls"...but, would still like to see how well I can do with the golf equipment I now have. Don't really want to spend $$$ on upgraded clubs.  Maybe I'll watch several videos and do some surveys - earn some credits, then, upgrade.
