I've played Kiawah about a dozen times and i might add that I have played a number of the Scottish links courses, St Andrews, Turnberry, Carnousite, etc. Frankly there isn't that much difference in a Scottish links course and a course like Kiawah. Kiawah has much more sand and water that are in play but the course itself plays similar. Thistle isn't around on Kiawah but the entire course is built on the dunes so the rough becomes more sand than grass.
Green speed is much faster at Kiawah, although WGT in virtual golf can control that. The winds can come up at Kiawah much like in Scotland. The biggest difference to me is that you don't have the rain at Kiawah and the fairways while they are firm aren't like the rock hard fairways at some Scottish tracts.
My issue with WGT is that we don't need more links courses. I would much rather see the US Open and PGA tracts and a links course ever 5 years. Some of the US Open courses that are coming up are semi links courses anyway. Shinnecock Hills for example.
