Not a traditional links course but a links course all the same as it's situated on links land.

Have you ever played it? It's situated on Marsh/Wetland... as is much of the South Carolina and Georgia coast line. Not a traditional links course = not a links course. The greens/fairways aren't particularly undulating.. the winds generally aren't high.

Straight from the PGA website where Kiawah are hosting the 2012 PGA Championship:

Designed from a ribbon of pristine sand dunes stretching nearly three miles along the Atlantic Ocean at the eastern end of Kiawah Island, The Ocean Course is a par-72 layout reminiscent of the great seaside links of England and Scotland

They're the most undulating greens I've ever seen.

Having played this course and the links courses of Scotland many times, there are many similar features.  Kiawah is on some marsh land but it is right on the ocean.  The final holes run north and you can hit a ball on the beach.  Winds are severe here from time to time they just don't come up as quickly as they do in Scotland.

While the greens don't have the huge mounds that St Andrews or RSG have in them, they are much faster and have many more breaks than do the links style courses in Scotland.  My take is that this course is a links style course than much more closely resembles a Scottish tract than a true American course.  You can make the same comparison of Shinnecock Hills up in New York as well.  Compare it to Winged Foot, which I view as a true US style course with trees, deep rough, strategic bunkers and very fast greens.

The truly funny thing about Wing Foot. When it was built, the trees were pretty much out of play like Oakmont. The membership in the early to mid 30's though they needed to add more trees to make it more beautiful...good grief!

How about some from Myrtle Beach, SC. Its the golf capital of the world with hundreds of courses
