Hi,I'd like to get in on this discussion.  I've been playing since March, 2013.  I have very rarely finished a game with the same number of people I started with. They don't forfeit, they just disconnect.  I get very angry because it spoils the game for everyone playing.         I feel that a 6 shot penalty for each hole missed should be added to their scores, and counted.  They are just disconnecting because they have 1 or 2 bad holes and they figure they can't win and want to save their average.  I say dock them 6 for each hole, if they don't forfeit.

    Thanks  DomG1

Well as far as A/S matches are concerned, what would be wrong with once a person has a orange check mark for a week, he could be banned from A/S matches for 1 week, when he comes back he has a week to turn in enough completed matches to turn his check mark back to yellow. Maybe something similar but less severe for the yellows to get back to green.

I have been disq many many times because my partner is disconnected 3 times or he can't get back after a disconnect. But I have never lost my green check mark, seems it must take a lot of these quits/disconnects to go yellow. Something should be done, its hard enough to find players for A/S.

Dom- That penalty suggestion is a sandbagger's dream. Every sandbagger in the world will be quitting matches right and left in order to blow up their averages.

The current system is good enough. Just find trustworthy people to play with.

Willy- Your suggestion might work for someone who can afford to play and has the time to play 3 ranked rounds per day, 7 days a week as your total number of ranked rounds indicates but it sure doesn't for people who are playing socially or on a budget here.

    Pick your partners more carefully.

I have been playing by myself since I joined. I have quit many games just to restart them to save hits on my balls. I would never quit a match or a team event no matter how bad I was playing, but in competing by myself in ccth tournaments or other individual tournaments I see not reason to keep playing if I have already exceeded my previous placing score. The main reason I play by myself is that I don't use the "gimmicks" to play. I don't move the distance marker to allow for the wind nor do I move it to putt. I simply go by the wind speed and direction and by the green slope and speed indicators, after all it is a game of skill. It is my opinion that they WGT should adopt the USGA handicap and slope systems and all games should be ranked, even practice rounds. As it is I would not feel comfortable playing in competition with the current system and it's aids. If you can't do it with your head, hands, and reasoning capabilities then it is just another electronic game that only requires knowing how to operate gizmos. You will find sandbaggers in every individual sport known to man, it doesn't take long to find who they are and learn to avoid them. Golf is a gentlemen's game and a sport based in rules, and in the real world sandbaggers soon find themselves alone, as their only goal is fleece players who play as gentlemen and by the rules. I would hope to meet some of you guys in the future, but with my method of play as it affects my scoring ability would just not be competitive under the current system. There are only a handful if that many professional golfers who have a score in the fifties and I believe the record is 59. I see scores in the lower fifties as commonplace on this site. My lowest score has been a 69 on the Royal St. Georges course, and my average is 72.03 or some such. Anyway just thought I would put in my two cents worth. Thanks for reading it. Regards to all, WildBillbakerhil.

    I agree with 67soggy totally.

I have been on the WGT for 7+mo. and lately, as I get better, I am having the same trouble and I am finding more and more that there are those that don't know how to loose and ruin the game for the  rest of us.                                                                                  An example: Twice in the past 2 days, and I'm playing a Master and I beating them by 1 and 2 strokes coming into the 8th hole and one quit and the other on the 9th last put, just didn't put and just left. Leaving me stranded.                                                    Sportsmanship should count for something.  I know they don't want to look bad losing to only a Tour Pro but that happens. I am getting very frustrated with the Masters who think they can't be beat and won't admit they are not perfect in their play.  This has happened to me many more times than I have just mentioned in the previous 2 or 3 months . Something must be done about this lack of commitment to finish a game.  A penalty should be levied to make them think twice.   Quitters are losers and will never be real winners and they are cheating themselves. and me. I would like to finish just one game with all the players I started with!

I agree. Some suggestions, some of that have been made before:

    1. REDUCE or REMOVE the 2.5min wait time after someone forfeits/disconnects from the game. Totally unnecessary and sometimes causes other people to leave the game.
    2. To help with lag time or slow load, REDUCE the max players for games from 4 to 3.  I find that more errors or disconnects happen with 4 players...its getting ridiculous.
    3. PENALTIES for those who QUIT after only playing 1 or 2 holes. They disrupt the game and if outside issues were the cause, then Why do they join the game, at that time?? People know that on games you have to allot a certain amount of TIME (usually 20-30min, depending on timer and amount of players). Quitting after joining is in poor sportsmanship and should require a penalty. If the person gets "upset" and quit...so be it. Some people just want to play the game...

    1. Agree with you there - on the poker site I go to, you have 90 seconds to reconnect - and the time you take gets docked from the game overall.

So .. you might take 60 seconds to reconnect - that means you only have 30 left if you disconnect again. It's called a "disconnect bank" which starts each game at 90 seconds.

This site is WAY overly generous with its disconnect time limit - I would be more than willing to hear their explanation of why that is.

    2. One of the most popular versions of the game on here is Alternate Shot. That's a very hard game to play with 3 people ... (ie. impossible). Bad idea.

    3. In one game of 18 holes alternate shot, my partner was clearly having problems - first he timed out a "warning" then he said "sorry - really sorry - domestic emergency, I might need to leave in the next few minutes". And that's what he did .. he left and ruined the game.

But that's fine - real life is more imporant than a computer golf game. A bad moment happened while he was playing.

It's how we deal with the serial quitters - I suggest banning them from all multi-player games if they quit 3 games in one week (for whatever reason). And only reinstate them when they have played 10 x 18 hole scoring tournaments/stroke play. This should be automatic no matter what the level - and it should be automatic the moment you join the site.

You do 10 x 18 holes on your own, and earn the right to play with other people afterwards. It should feel like a great privilege that you've worked for and want to keep.

If my partner had a genuine emergency, then he would be unaffected - because he would need three such "emergencies" in one week to get penalised. Unlikely to happen.
