All points of view understandable but I believe that the number one driving force behind quitters quitting is ego. If in a match play they go down early a couple holes and their timing is off, they just up and quit and it has nothing to do with their house or job or anything. Their ego gets the best of them and in effect they become sorry sore losers. I was just playing such a match and the person concluded he wasn't going to win this particular match so he up'd and quit. How do I know this. Because he was the result of my immediate search to find a new game.

So, my recommendation is to place a requirement that you either get your playing partner(s) to agree on dropping the match, present your reason for leaving to your partner and they excuse you from any further play. This way everyone is communicating and no one gets annoyed, because it is annoying! OR - you have to push a nice , big, easily identifiable "FORFEIT" button. If you don't achieve one of those, then the system should penalize the player.

Reading through the responses here, there are good suggestions on all sides of the issue. One thing I didn't notice is a reference to my pet peeve (happened again this morning). It seems to be getting more difficult to find a foursome for a (ranked) stroke play round, even for just 9 holes.

The reason I like to play this format is because (unless I'm playing a tournament round) I am rarely -only- playing WGT. Maybe I'm a little ADD, but I really enjoy playing in a group format but, with two 24" monitors, I can multitask and get some work done while playing as well.

I started a 3-person 9-hole stroke play round this morning and had to finish the last four holes by myself. Not ideal.

I would just ask that players consider all the factors. If you have to leave because of real life - just type in a brief message to let your playing partners know. We are an understanding community.

Just leaving with no explanation gives everyone a bad feeling.

One last note, I will give international players the benefit of the doubt based on connectivity issues. North America and the UK are not the only nations in the world with decent broadband networks, but I understand that connectivity from some countries might not be ideal.

Let's just treat each other with a modicum of courtesy and WGT will be that much more fun.

    Have a great week!

    X

Not always so...for a while a few months ago, things were so bad almost no on could finish AS matches because the discos were so bad.

    +1

Each matchplay quitter "gifts" the same mark to his innocent opponent, and IMHO that many connectivity issues are not on the clients' side but at or in WGT's servers. Methinks that the game may be overly sensitive to delays which can happen everywhere in the net.

This thread is like going to your therapist, talking about things that bother you which makes you feel better.

Lest we forget that WGT is a business with a goal of improving profit margins with a limited amount of resources.

If they can identify a situation that is reducing or restricting the growth of revenue they will apply the resources.  Everything else will be handled with coddling and broken promises.

To avoid quitters, the best thing is to play multiplayer games with your own club members because there would be consequences for quitters, and no matter what, do not get involved in a game with players marked orange or even yellow.  Yellows are just oranges that haven't ripened yet, lol.

    Thanks, I feel better.
