#17 at St Andrews....really Sweetie Pie.   A short par 5, only about 500 yards, with no real fairway, an impossible green and the wind always in your face?   Wait it isn't a par five  lol   This hole is virtually impossible from the new tees.  Into the wind I have played over to the left since I can't get to the normal fairway.  If you stay in the short grass over there you have about 240 to the pin and can get on the green sometimes.

515 from the new tees... probably about 545 when you take into account the dogleg.

On a day where my average has risen from 64 to over 68, I have decided I hate them all :^(   Three 7s and a 9 during various rounds, something I've not scored since being a Hack, lol....

    CharlemagneRH:
When you can chip/pitch almost as well as you can putt, you can start nabbing some birdies on those holes.

It is true. And Beth is the best place to learn the lesson.

    tiffer67:

For me it is undoubtedly the 17th at Kiawah. I don't know what is wrong with me when it comes to playing it? Possibly it's the fact that being the penultimate hole, it has the ability to ruin a card in 1 easy go or whether I just don't have the bottle for it. Whatever it is, I just cannot play the damn hole well when it counts.

Yesterday I was -8 on the tee in the 18 hole Ready Go. I'd hit every fairway and only missed one green prior. What happens? Yes, you've guessed it, I balloon my tee shot right into the pond. It then gives me a drop in the sand @ 184 yards!!! Second ball goes short into the pond. I then get a 3rd shot from the tee and walk off with a 7. I then bogey the 18th just to really blow up. What looked like a posssible 2nd place, if I'd made 2 pars, becomes a 69 and 11th.

Today, I am -7 on the 17th after making 9 pars and 7 birdies. Wallop! Another one ballooned into the pond. I know the routine from here, so it's no surprise that I'm in the sand from my drop. Another one drops hopelessly short of the green stuff and I eventually walk off with a 7. Then lo and behold I bogey 18. A 65 turns into a 70 and I lose a potential 2nd place and end up in 12th.

400 credits lost and 4 balls gone too.

God I hate that feckin hole!!!

I just got a par at that hole but i see why you hate it becuase of the water which is very hard to avoid. I suggest aiming it at the greenside bunkers thats' far away from the water, chip it out of there and sink the putt. That's what i done to get par. Now it is a really hard hole but tehre is harder I think like that long par four on the front nine of Bethpage Black with a tee shot over bunkers and round tress then it's a long way to the hoel for me.

Any Bethpage hole...the course rough is ridiculous..1 Ft into rough should NOT be a 50% rough on ANY course.. . I would complain to the groundskeeper where it my home course...that is too much penalty for a SLIGHTLY offline shot.. SImply ridiculous!

Did I mention I hate that course?    Heh heh

Super, I play the real BP in real life and I can tell you the rough can be ridiculous.  And its not so much the length but the the ball seems to always find a way to nestle down to the root base.  Its kind of crazy.  Played an amatuer tourney there, and the 6th hole my playing partner's heels were in the fairway, toes on the 2nd cut, and ball barely in the full rough.  From 160yds out he had to just punch a 9 iron, it was the only way to advance the ball more then 50yds.
