I think the problem is you appear to say you did so in your first post:
JasCooper:
You're playing a game and get to a
shot near water. It's a crucial game so you put the starter balls aside
and break out the 500 credit Nikes.
And get to a shot near water. This is the dodgy line here. It suggests you were playing a round with starter balls then had a crucial shot so swapped to Nikes. Clearly this wasn't the case though, you presumably started the round with them as it was an important one. I can see how people jumped to the conclusion they apparently did.
If you know that you can't change balls mid round it should be possible to figure out I chose to use the Nikes before I started play.
I have several types of balls that I use depending on my mood or the game. If a tournament is single play I don't use starter balls. If it's unlimited play I may use starter balls, or, depending on the course, a cheap ball that adds distance or spin.
Perhaps it seems like sheer coincidence, but until I played a 500 credit ball, hitting it in the bush on whatever hole it is on St. A, it never came up 'Lost Ball' if I was a couple of yards off the fairway.
And this is a game. The only money I play for are those worthless silver coins. So there are several logical solutions. Let a player pay some fee to retrieve a ball in a conceivably accessible location, as someone suggested. Especially when the difference could be between a ball that's almost used up vs. one that you just put into play. Sell balls for silver coins instead of valuable credits (I have almost a million coins that are only good for betting on games that offer little reward. Or renting mediocre clubs for a week; clubs you can't even buy).
As for the app being horrible, it isn't at all. I think the graphics are superior to the browser version. But it lacks a lot of the information and options of the browser game. In fact, they're really two almost completely different games. Games I've been told can't even be played between those on a tablet and on a PC in many situations.
We're all entitled to our opinions. I've offered mine. I'd also like to have an option to take a timeout while playing a ranked round. Essentially being able to save a shot (lie) for later practice. So you can see what would happen if you used a different club or shot from the exact same location and conditions. Or in addition to being able to 'friend' a player right after a game, making it just as easy to block one who forfeits because they hit one bad shot.
