Would you accept a 10%+ rise in price for such feature?

A good question! Personally no, some of my more wayward launches would lose a lot of amusement value. More than the 10% price hike anyway.

    Cheers

On my local course, if I hit a ball OB there is ZERO chance of retrieving it. Swathes of six foot high gorse bushes with thorns that would shred your hands and arms prevent it.

Hit OB, your ball is lost, dry your eyes and move on.

I'm just glad the heavy rough on WGT is unrealtic.

On my local course (same one) some of the heavy rough in play would give a WGT lie of 1000-1200%.

Overall this game is excellent and very fair, get on with playing it.

And the fact is, if I hit the exact same shot with a starter ball, it probably would land where I aimed it, and not like there was a ball magnet sucking my expensive Nike out of play.

If you really thought that, then you would have been playing the starter balls to begin with and not the Nike.

And as an aside, when a starter ball goes into the water, technically that ball is also taken out of play. It's simply the case you have an unlimited supply of the starter balls. So the fact that the message doesn't say "Ball taken out of play" really is irrelevant.

All other things being equal....how do you swap your starter balls for Nikes mid-round?

I think what he's intending to say is that he's going to be playing a "crucial game" in which he knows he'll have a water shot at some point during the round. So before the round starts, he switches to the Nike from the starter.

    JasCooper:

    You can't switch balls mid-round.

I think the problem is you appear to say you did so in your first post:

    JasCooper:

You're playing a game and get to a shot near water. It's a crucial game so you put the starter balls aside and break out the 500 credit Nikes.

And get to a shot near water.  This is the dodgy line here.  It suggests you were playing a round with starter balls then had a crucial shot so swapped to Nikes.  Clearly this wasn't the case though, you presumably started the round with them as it was an important one.  I can see how people jumped to the conclusion they apparently did.

    JasCooper:

And, I don't know what others do, but I'm not using a sleeve of 500 credit balls for every round I play.

That's why I use 250 credit Callaways.  I see no point in playing different balls for different rounds, you won't be confident of getting the result you expect when you really need it.  And changing gear can mess with your game settings, resulting in shots such as you described.

I agree that it's best to stick with a single ball, regardless of the mode one is playing in or whether or not one perceives the particular round to be "crucial" or not.

There are times, however, that I'll switch from the Nike that I usually play to the starter ball (for example, if I'm in practice mode and just playing the game for diversion). But I realize that when I switch back to the Nike, it's going to take me a few holes to get back in rhythm with the Nike. It's inevitable.

But that's why the first round I play when I switch back to the Nike has virtually no chance of being hit out of bounds. For me, the front 9 of RSG works perfectly for that. The front 9 of Chambers Bay is also a "low risk" course for me (in terms of incurring a lost ball due to a wayward hit).

I agree. One of the things that makes a decent golfer is consistency and that starts with knowing your shots. Regardless of what ball/club combo one uses, if you know what your shots do, you do well and that's hard to achieve if you're not playing the same thing all the time.

I just played a round in that Andyson tournament with a guy that uses 10 credit B-XD balls and he was on my tail the entire round and finished 3 strokes behind me  (59-62) with a clean card. It was a pleasure to watch him make the different shots the cheap ball required. He knew his shots and executed them.

Switching to a $5 ball for an important round is almost like shooting yourself in the foot. For starters, missed shots are going to hurt more, the different meter speed is going to get in the way and  the carry numbers are going to change. Three important parts of the game are affected immediately just by switching balls.

Perhaps there is a difference of opinion regarding why people play WGT golf. I ONLY play for amusement. And I play on an iPad with the mobile app. I don't have slick features that show distances to bunkers or water hazards. Or cameras to show different angles. On some shots, I can't even move the marker to a spot I need to avoid a tree or see the breaks on a green.

I also (and I'm sure plenty of people are going to jump on me for complaining about losing balls in minor water hazards) have spent all of $5 on this game (only to eliminate ads). Every club I have I've bought with credits I've gotten free for clicking off videos, 2 credits at a time.

But that doesn't dismiss the fact that if a ball lands in a puddle or a little bush a yard from the fairway, if it's a Nike or other pricey ball, it's mysteriously irretrievable.

As for switching balls, I'm not wasting shots on a ball for a 900 coin game, but will if it's for 18,000 coins. My clubs are all different meter speeds, so getting used to different balls for different courses or games is not the same drawback as doing something like switching putters.

We all have our peeves with this game. Some don't like having their Consecutive Days Played wiped out. Some are disturbed by losing XP points when their opponent forfeits on the last green when they're a gimmi putt from winning. It bothers me when I have to hit a shot 20 yards short of a little creek running across the fairway because an expensive ball has some mysterious attraction to water. I'm not talking about avoiding a cliff where any ball would be lost.

Now, I'm not a golfer; but in the real game does 5 sleeves of decent balls cost more than a top quality driver; and wear out after a few rounds?

    That sounds horrible to play!
